Lab Schools General Fund
The Lab Schools General Fund was established in 1990 to support the activities, programs and operations of the Laboratory Schools at Illinois State University. The Lab School is a department in the College of Education and one of the oldest and largest lab school systems in the United States.
College of Education Dean's Faculty Development Endowment Fund
This fund was created in 2009 to provide support for faculty development and professional activities. It was created by merging an old and unused COE museum fund containing $16,900.00, for which the dean was fiscal agent, and the COE Futures 2007 fund, which had been created in support of the 150th Sesquicentennial of ISU but had only raised $3,485.14. Donors to the Futures fund were notified of the change. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The College of Education Dean's Faculty Development Endowment Fund was created in 2009 to provide support for faculty development and professional activities.
Odessa Meyer Scholarship
The Odessa Meyer Trust was given to ISU Foundation to use for scholarships in the Department of Education Administration. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Odessa Meyer was the first graduate in the educational administration post-master's program, earning the first specialist degree offered at Illinois State in 1964. Previously she had earned a two-year diploma in education in 1938. She also earned a B.S.E. in 1948 and an M.S.E. in 1955. The purpose of this scholarship, created for the Educational Administration and Foundations Department following her death in 1998, is to develop and support the scholarly excellence of EAF doctoral students from diverse groups.
U-High Stroud Auditorium Renovation Fund

Dr. Stewart L. Adams Endowed Scholarship in Teacher Education
The Dr. Stewart L. Adams Endowed Scholarship in Teacher Education was established in 2013. The purpose of this award is to provide financial support to students attending Illinois State University who plan to become teachers. Preference will be given to students who graduated from any high school in Rock Island County in Illinois.
Dr. John T. Goeldi Future Teacher Scholarship
This endowment was created by the 1997-98 Executive Board of the Student Education Association of Illinois State University in recognition of their faculty advisor. This scholarship is awarded to students who are members of the Student Education Assocation who have been active for at least two consecutive semesters. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Dr. John T. Rollings Scholarship Fund
The Rollings Scholarship fund was created in 2005 by Kaci Sue Rollings, who graduated from ISU in 1994 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. The scholarship is in honor of Kaci's grandfater Max Rollings (1916-2001). Both Kaci and Max have had a connection with ISU: Mas was a sheet metal superintendent working on the first high-rise dormitories, and Kaci is a former student, now an alumna. The scholasrhip is Kaci's way of giving back to the university that supported her personally and professionally. Mary and Robert English Technology Award Endowment
Bob '66, M.S. '67, and Mary '68 English established the Mary F. English Technology Award Program (MFETAP) in 2001. The purpose of the program is to recruit and retain disadvantaged students in the teacher education program at Illinois State University. In addition to special mentoring and academic support, students receive personal computers, technical training, and supplies. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Mary and Robert English Technology Award Endowment was established in the fall of 2001 by Robert English in honor of his wife, Mary. Bob and Mary met at Illinois State University where she earned a B.S. in English education in 1968 and he earned a B.S. in business education in 1966 and a M.S. in business administration in 1967. In 1978, they started English & Associates, Inc., a consulting business in educational data processing; co-authored the Guide to Administrative Software; founded Continental Testing Services, Inc., a psychometric firm; and in 1984 started PMA Financial Services, Inc., an investment firm devoted to the public sector. Today their children manage the firm. The purpose of this award program is to assist and support disadvantaged students pursuing teaching professions and to encourage the use of technology in the classroom once they enter the field.

This endowment was established in 1995 by Louise Purnell Jones, a 1940 graduate of ISNU. This scholarship is awarded to junior or senior students majoring in elementary education. The College of Education Global Initiatives Fund will be used for support of the College of Education international education initiatives. Support may include student travel scholarships, faculty international travel, financial support to visiting scholars, scholarly publication dissemination to international audiences, and other needs as designated by the College of Education.
Joseph A. Rives and Scott J. Brouette Endowed Scholarship Fund for LGBTQ Support in Education
The Joseph A. Rives '90, '94 and Scott J. Brouette '87, '89 Endowed Scholarship Fund for LGBTQ Support in Education was established in 2016 by Joseph Rives and Scott Brouette. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support to a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in good standing in the College of Education or any secondary education program at Illinois State. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need and identify with the LGBTQ community.
Laurie Turilli Endowed Scholarship in Special Education
The Laurie Turilli Endowed Scholarship in Special Education was established in 2016 by Laurie and Larry Turilli. The scholarship provides support for a special education major who has completed their practicum semester and is enrolled in field based or student teaching. Laurie Turilli is a 1978 graduate of Illinois State University with her B.S. degree in Special Education. She taught Special Education for 10 years in Illinois and New York, returning to ISU in 1997 as a Clinical Assistant Professor. Laurie supervised clinical students in their practicum, field based, and student teaching semesters until her retirement in 2017. Her husband, Larry, and daughter, Stacey, are also Illinois State University graduates.
Dr. and Mrs. Harry D. Lovelass U-High to ISU Scholarship
This scholarship was originally established at University High School in 1996 by Thomas and Meredith Lovelass, in memory of Harry and Mescall Lovelass. In 2009, the scholarship guidelines were expanded such that awards would be given to students who will attend Illinois State University. Harry was principal and later director of University High School. Mescal served as an English teacher for Unit 5 for over fifteen years. The scholarship is to be awarded annually at $1000 each to two students as long as funds are received to make this award possible. Each candidate must be a U-High senior who has been accepted and enrolled to attend ISU in the fall semester following graduation, and they must have a grade point of at least 3.2 and demonstrated evidence of leadership and service. Whenever possible, one of the scholarships is to be awarded to a student enrolling in the College of Education, and the other to a student enrolling in any college at ISU. This endowment was established in 1997 by a committee of University High School students in honor of Peter Parmantie, who was an English teacher at U-High from 1959 until his retirement in 1997. The scholarship is awarded to a University High School graduating senior seeking a career in education. The U-High Alumni Association Fund was established in March 1996 to support U-High through alumni events, activities, and community outreach efforts.
George Girardi Wrestling Endowment
This endowment was established in 1997 in memory of George Girardi, a teacher and coach at University High and Illinois State for 41 years, by family, friends, and colleagues. The funds are used to support the U-High Wrestling program. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Special Education General Fund provides support for the activities, programs and operations associated with the department. The Department of Special Education at Illinois State University is one of the largest and most respected special education programs in the country.
Dr. Tina Taylor Family Scholarship in Special Education
The Taylor Family Scholarship for Student Teaching in Special Education was established to financially support those students pursing the special education field during their student teaching.

The School of Teaching and Learning Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 as a general scholarship fund for students through the School of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education at Illinois State University.

Barry Curry Memorial Fund
This endowment was established in 1990 by friends and family in memory of Barry Curry, a member of the class of 1992. The recipient of the Barry Curry Lineman of the year award will be determined annually by the University High School Head football coach. The Howard and Naomi Oesch Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by the naming of the College of Education as a charitable beneficiary through the Estate Trust of Naomi Oesch. Naomi Oesch created the scholarship to benefit elementary education students at ISU, and to serve as a living memorial and legacy in honor of her husband, who died in 1979. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Franson-Anderson Memorial Scholarship Fund
This endowment was established in 1995 in memory of Ida Franson Anderson, a 1952 elementary education graduate of ISNU. The scholarship is awarded to students in the College of Education planning a career in teaching. The funds are used to support expenses associated with international travel for academic purposes. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Franson-Anderson Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Ida Franson, a class of 1952 graduate of Illinois State University, and her husband Eugene "Jerry" Anderson. A life-long resident of Niles, Illinois, Ida served as a substitute teacher for the Niles school district for more than 30 years and as a volunteer for the school library for several more years following her retirement from teaching. She was best known for her commitment to her profession, a willingness to share her experience with others, and an uncanny capacity to memorize names and faces. The Franson-Anderson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student admitted to teacher education, preferably elementary education, and planning a career in the teaching profession. The award may be used to support expenses associated with an international educational experience endorsed through Illinois State University (e.g. student abroad, student teaching, alternate spring break programs, etc.)
Karl Schmidt - Glenn Schlichting Sr Scholarship
Glenn T. Schlichting, Sr. & Karl G. Schmidt Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 by the families of these highly effective educators to honor their lifelong contributions as teachers, administrators and mentors to teachers. Both of these men dedicated their lives to children by striving to bring the best programs, teachers, resources, facilities, activities and learning experiences into the lives of students and their families. Each candidate for this scholarship must meet the following requirements: Be a junior or senior student in good standing at ISU who is enrolled full-time in the COE, or who is enrolled in a graduate program in the COE while concurrently teaching in an elementary or middle school. Due to the minority of male teachers in elementary and middle school positions, preference will be given to a male student. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, demonstrates financial need. Donald F. Templeton Scholarship
The Donald F. Templeton Scholarship was established by his family to honor Don's commitment to education. Don grew up in Waterloo, Iowa; attended college at Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa); served in the US Army during World War II and taught a few years at his high school alma mater before moving his family to Normal in 1950. He taught English and journalism at University High School before moving to Illinois State's administration in 1966, where he served as Assistant to the Dean of Academic Affairs. Don always saw the good in students, making sure they knew they had to do well in their studies to come back into the university community after academic probation. His children still hear from former students who, because of "Mr. T", were allowed to return to graduate and succeed in life.
R. Douglas & Janice Luecke Irvine Scholarship in Education
The R. Douglas and Janice Luecke Irvine Scholarship in Education was established in 2016 by Doug and Janice Irvine to support students majoring in Special Education with emphasis on teaching the visually impaired. Janice and Doug met in the spring semester of their freshman year at Illinois State Normal University and married in the summer following their graduation from Illinois State University in 1967. Janice majored in Education of the Blind and Visually Impaired and taught the Blind and Visually Impaired for the South Bend Community School Corporation for 26 years. Doug completed a comprehensive major in the Social Sciences and taught on the college level for several years, served in administration, and retired after serving as a college financial aid administrator for several Indiana schools. Doug and Janice strongly believe in giving back to Illinois State and created the R. Douglas and Janice Luecke Irvine Scholarship to support students with financial need.
Dr. William D. Zeller College of Education Scholarship
The Dr. William D. Zeller College of Education Scholarship Fund was established by Mary B. Zeller. This fund was created to provide financial assistance for those studying Education and preparing to teach in high school.
The Nancy L. Kampmeier College of Education Endowed Scholarship
Nancy was moved to establish the fund to support students entering the profession of education. Nancy was a music education teacher for over 40 years.
Mary Kathryn Merna-Mellon Endowed Scholarship Fund
This fund was created in 2006 by Edwin Dale Mellon in honor and in memory of his wife Mary, who passed away in 2002. Mary was born in Bloomington and lived on a farm in Merna, a town which was named after her grandfather. She began her education in a one-room, country schoolhouse and fulfilled her dream when she earned her bachelor of science in education degree from Illinois State Normal University in 1953. While teaching third and fourth graders at Roach School in Decatur, she met Edwin Mellon, who was also a teacher there. Together, they raised a family of five children, one daughter and four sons. The purpose of this scholarship is to honor Mary and her teacher education by providing financial support to a student pursuing his or her dream of becoming a teacher.
Bernerd I. Lowery Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in 2011 through a gift from the estate of Sandra Lowery. Sandra planned, prior to her death, to make sure that there would be a scholarship at U-High in memory of her husband, Bernerd. He was a 1947 graduate of University High School and often mentioned how much he valued the excellent education he received while a student there. He was accepted to Illinois State Normal University but found that he could not afford to attend at that time. He began a 27 year career in retail with Al Baskin/Mark Shale. He later developed his own business selling high-end clothing to large department stores and realized a very successful career. In his honor, The Bernerd I. Lowery Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to U-High students who wish to continue their education at Illinois State University.
Lillian Scholljegerdes Davies Scholarship

The Lillian Scholljegerdes Davies Endowed Scholarship was established by Lillian's colleagues and family as a living memorial in her honor. Lillian was an Illinois State University faculty member, who served as an academic advisor and an associate professor of elementary education from 1963-1973 before she retired. Candidates should be elementary education majors, hold a 3.0 GPA, and be nominated by a pre-student teaching supervisor for reading and/or language arts methods clinical assignments.

This endowment was established in 1998 by Dr. John H. Williams, a 1954 University High School graduate. This scholarship is awarded to a University High School graduating senior demonstrating academic improvement between their freshman and senior years. This endowment was established in 2002 by Wanda and Dale Weaver. The Phyllis McCluskey-Titus CSPA Endowed Scholarship
The Phyllis McCluskey-Titus CSPA Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Ed Manley, a College of Education alumnus and supporter. Ed was moved to establish this scholarship to honor retiring faculty member and program director, Dr. Phyllis McCluskey-Titus. Through this scholarship, the legacy of Dr. McCluskey-Titus, retiring after 22 years at ISU and a career of over 40 years in Student Affairs and with an alumni network of over 500 from the ISU CSPA program, will continue to impact students that are committed to enriching the lives of students across college campuses around the world.

Jannes (Teply) and Dr. Gary Weede Endowed Elementary Education Scholarship
Jannes and Gary Weede were first generation college graduates coming from families of modest means. They had to work their way through all of their earned degrees. Jannes taught for 24 years at Fairview Elementary School in Normal and had the privilege of supervising numerous Illinois State University student teachers during her teaching career. During his teaching career in the Industrial Technology Department at Illinois State, Gary developed a plastics technology program, served as graduate coordinator and taught various manufacturing and graduate courses in Engineering Technology. He retired after 28 years at the University. The Weedes possess a strong desire to provide support to students with financial need in the College of Education at Illinois State University. The purpose of this fund is to assist education majors as they pursue their dreams of becoming teachers.
Steve Gleason Journalism Award
The Steve Gleason Journalism Award Fund was established by the Pantagraph and its employees in memory of Steve Gleason, a longtime Pantagraph editor who died after a traffic accident in 2000. Candidates must meet each of the following requirements: be a graduating senior from University High School, demonstrate high achievement in courses related to journalism, plan to attend college to pursue a major in journalism or a related communication field, and be committed to the ideal of serving others. Assets of this endowment are invested in the ISU Endowment Investment Pool. The Steve Gleason Journalism Award Fund was established by the Pantagraph and its employees in memory of Steve Gleason, a longtime Pantagraph editor who died after a traffic accident in 2000. Ferrell Family Endowment Scholarship for Prof. Dev. Schools
The Ferrell Family Endowed Scholarship for the Professional Development School in the College of Education at Illinois State University was established in December of 2013 by Audrey Ferrell. Ms. Ferrell began her teaching career in 1950 after receiving a two year teaching certificate from Iowa Wesleyan College. She later completed a four year education degree at Illinois State University in 1971. Patricia H. Klass-Linda L. Lyman Endowed Scholarship
At the time this scholarship was established, Dr. Patricia H. Klass was serving as professor and chair of the Educational Administration and Foundations Department, and Dr. Linda L. Lyman was also a professor in the department. The purpose of this scholarship fund is to recognize and honor these two professors for their outstanding contributions to students, while also providing financial support for EAF doctoral students seeking careers in P-12 Leadership.

Greenebaum of Chicago arranged for a gift to Illinois State to establish an endowment to provide scholarships for students studying to become teachers, who might not otherwise be able to afford college tuition. All scholarships shall be made in memory of Elisabeth; her parents, Helen Greenebaum and Jacob Greenebaum; and her brother, Henry E. Greenebaum. Elisabeth graduated from the University of Chicago. She had wanted to pursue a graduate degree at Illinois State, but caring for her parents and the family business prevented that. Henry served in the Army, graduated from Northwestern University, traveled extensively, and helped with the family business. Candidates must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0, be enrolled in a teacher education program, and have demonstrated financial need. Eleanor Kong Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Education
The Eleanor Kong Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Education was established in 2011 by the family of Eleanor Kong who wanted to make sure that her life and commitments were remembered and honored in perpetuity. Eleanor came to the U.S. with her family in 1991. Eleanor became a Golden Apple Scholar in 1993 and completed her life-long dream of becoming a teacher when she earned her undergraduate degree in elementary education from Illinois State University in 1997. She taught in the Chicago Public School System before she returned to Illinois State University to teach and to complete her graduate degree. Her life ended in September 1999 at the young age of 24. Even though she was unable to fulfill her ultimate goal of completing a doctoral degree in education, this scholarship will allow her dream to continue to help others to become teachers who impact the lives of their students.

The purpose of this fund is to provide financial resources to support a variety of educational needs of the Chicago Teacher Education Pipeline by providing readily available resources to enhance educational processes for students and to continue staff development and employment.

The College of Education General Fund supports the general operating needs of the College of Education at Illinois State University. Educator preparation is a university-wide effort that includes five colleges and enrolls more than 5,000 students. The Donald and Mary Cay Hahn Scholarship was established in 2017 by Mary Cay and Don Hahn. Their desire to focus on recruitment of students as education majors to ISU reflects their passion for education and teacher preparation as well as the impact ISU had on their lives as educators and administrators.

The Betty Phillips Watson Fund in Special Education Department was established in 2019 to provide support for students majoring in special education with demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to transfer or nontraditional students.
Judith Roberts Busey Scholarship
The Judith Roberts Busey Scholarship was established in 2007 by Judith and John Busey to express their desire to encourage college students to pursue an interest in the teaching profession. Judith graduated from Illinois State Normal University (ISNU) in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in education. After graduating she taught second grade in Pekin IL. She taught at the elementary level as a full-time and substitute teacher for almost 20 years, retiring in 2000.
Ralph E. Grimm, Sr. and Ralph E. Grimm, Jr. College of Education Scholarship Fund
Family members of Ralph E. Grimm Sr. and Ralph E. Grimm Jr. were moved to establish this scholarship to honor the commitment to education instilled in each of them. While Ralph E. Grimm Sr. did not graduate from college, he had a successful career as an industrial electrician. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner. His son, Ralph E. Grimm Jr., a graduate of Illinois State University '83 M.S. '86, went on to have an impactful career in education, retiring as a superintendent of Galesburg School District.

Dr. Marilyn K. Moore Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in 2011 by Marilyn Moore's daughters and their husbands, as a surprise, to honor her for her many contributions to the field of education. Marilyn was born on the Southside of Chicago in 1946 and grew up in a time where there were many social injustices. She believed that it was unfair that opportunities were not the same for minority children, especially in relation to education. This motivated her to become a teacher. In 1989 she became a professor at Illinois State University. She organized Urban Bus Tours which take education majors to urban classrooms throughout Chicago and pair them up with inner-city elementary school students in mentor/mentee relationships. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support for students majoring in elementary education or early childhood education who plan to become teachers for diverse populations.

The scholarship is awarded to an ISU student who is a graduate of Warrensburg-Latham High School majoring in elementary education. The award is based on academic accomplishments and financial need. Barclay Endowed Scholarship in Elementary Education was established by family members of Pyrle Barclay to recognize her achievements as an elementary school teacher. Mary earned her B.S. in 1952 and taught in public schools until her retirement in 1994. She believed it was important for children to learn to read at an early age. Each candidate must be a junior or senior majoring in elementary education at Illinois State, demonstrate interest in teaching reading at the elementary education level, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0, demonstrate financial need, and be involved in community or university service activities. This scholarship was created in 2011 by Edna Bazik to help provide financial support for students planning to become mathematics educators. At the time of the establishment of this scholarship she was a mathematics teacher, consultant, author, and associate professor of mathematics education at National Louis University. As a result of her outstanding commitment to excellence in teaching, she has received numerous awards and honors, including induction into the Illinois State University College of Education Hall of Fame in 2002.

Joe Club Student Assistance Fund
The Joe Club Student Assistance Endowment was established in 2014 by an anonymous donor. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance to University High School students during the college exploration and admission application and selection process. Funds may be used to support students unable to meet the financial obligations, expectations, or requirements for test preparation classes; college visits; essay assistance for college applications; supplemental or enhancement opportunities required for college admissions; or any assistance deemed helpful by the administrators toward the goal of college admission and future college attendance.
Nan Schuman Klein Future Teacher Scholarship
Nancy Jo Schuman graduated from Illinois State University in 1973, earning a B.S. in education. She taught elementary school for more than four years and continued to take classes at the University to earn her M.S. in special education. Before she could complete her degree, she moved to California where she entered the business field and became a human resources executive. Many of the skills that she learned at Illinois State enabled her to lead and train her teams of employees to achieve success in their careers. Meanwhile she married and had one child. Nan never forgot her teaching years and has created this scholarship to support students in their dreams of becoming teachers. She also has a special regard for persons who come into teaching having been in a previous career. Those individuals will receive special attention in the application process.
Roy O. Schilling Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by Roy O. Schilling in 2007 to help support a deserving student that plans to become a teacher. Roy began his career in 1935 with a teaching certificate. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State Normal University and a masters degree in 1942 from Columbia College, New York City. During his life he taught elementary school, served as a principal, was a supervisor of student teachers, was an elementary administrative assistant for the Decatur Public Schools, and was a visiting associate professor of education at Millikin University. He served on many educational boards and received many awards for his dedication and service. He received the Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush in 2006 as an acknowledgement of his dedication and impact on education.

The Julie and Bob Dobski Early Childhood Education Scholarship was established by Little Jewels Learning Center in 2023 in order to emphasize the significance of Early Childhood teachers.

The William L. and Creta D. Sabine Scholarship is awarded each year to an educational administration student who ranks high scholastically and shows promise as an administrator. This scholarship was established in 2011 through a gift from the estate of Norman E. Orr. He grew up on a farm near Bloomington, attended Bloomington public schools, and graduated from Illinois State Normal University in 1960. While attending the University he received a scholarship which impacted his education and his lifelong commitment to helping others. He was a man who aimed for excellence in everything he did, which is demonstrated by his thoughtfulness in making provisions through his estate to create a scholarship that would benefit students at Illinois State University, much like he benefitted when he was a student. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support for students who plan to become teachers and have a financial need. Endowment assets are invested in the Illinois State University Foundation's long-term investment pool.
E. Jay and Marilyn J. Hammer Memorial Scholarship Endowment
The E. Jay and Marilyn J. Hammer Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established in December 2017 by Lyle Barry Hammer to honor the desire of his parents, E. Jay and Marilyn J. Hammer, in their estate to support the Charles DeGarmo Scholars Endowment. Both E.Jay and Marilyn J. Hammer have passed away. This gift is honoring their request to provide financial assistance to certain Illinois State University students. Preference is given to students with demonstrated financial need who intend to teach in Illinois schools.

The Nancy K. Daniels Scholarship was established in 2007 through a gift of $2,000 to the ISU Foundation. Nancy Daniels was employed at ISU for twenty years. With the exception of one year, her whole career was spent in the Special Education Department. She was proud to have been part of ISU and wanted to give back to the University which had been such an important part of her life. Nancy Daniels created this scholarship at the time of her retirement because of her dedication to the Department of Special Education, and particularly the student employees with whom she work with over the years. One way to honor all of the students that she had worked with over the years was to offer a scholarship upon her retirement solely for the student employee. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide an annual $1000 scholarship award to a student employee in the Department of Special Education, to help defray the costs of higher education for the selected student. The Raymond Rogina and Diane Cullen Scholarship was established in 2021 by the Mayor of St. Charles and his wife, both career educators. Both financed their own educations and would like to help support a high school senior from St. Charles East High School who wants to attend Illinois State University to pursue a career in education. The scholarship supports an Incoming freshman graduating from St. Charles East High School majoring in any discipline intended for K-12 teacher education. Preference given to a student with demonstrated financial need.

The Lexie and Steven Greeneberg University High School Scholarship was established in 2017 to provide financial assistance for graduating seniors who demonstrate growth, service, and leadership in creative programs for at least four semesters while at University High School. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and be enrolled in a college or university in the fall semester following graduation from U-High.
Warren F. Craig Memorial Scholarship in COE
The Warren F. Craig Memorial Scholarship in the College of Education was established in memory of Warren F. Craig who was an educator for many years. Warren F. Craig was an educator and teacher, spending the majority of his career in Unit District 5 (Normal, IL) and retiring as the first Reading Coordinator for the district. Warren and his wife Joybelle strongly believed in education, equality, and cultural diversity. they were a host family for many ISU international students after he retired from teaching. Warren was "born and raised" in Fairbury, IL. After graduating from Fairbury High he followed in his father's footsteps and enrolled at Illinois State Normal University. His studies were interrupted by WW II, but after his Army service as a pharmacist's mate in Aleutian Islands he returned to finish his bachelor's degree at ISNU. He later obtained a Master's from the University of Illinois. Warren passed away in 2015 at the age of 94.

The Reverend Dr Joanne Peppard-Cooke Doctoral Grant Fund
The Reverend Dr. Joanne Peppard-Cooke Doctoral Grant fund was established by Dr. Cooke in 2003. The primary purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to doctoral candidates in the Educational Administration and Foundation Department to assist with completion of the doctoral dissertation and graduation. Following her death in February 2015, and subsequent distribution of her estate in November 2015, the fund became fully endowed.

In June 1989 the class of 1937 and class of 1939 created two new endowments in honor of the late Ruth Henline. Ruth Henline was a member of the English Department faculty from 1926-1970, serving as the advisor to the Class of 1939 for four years. Jepsen International Scholars Program Endowment
This scholarship was established by Keith Jepsen and his wife Kathleen Dore. Following the attacks of 9/11 they wondered what they could do to support international understanding, and decided that the only long-term solution to the problems in the world is international education. Keith earned two degrees from Illinois State University, a B.S. in business teacher education in 1967 and an M.S. in counselor education in 1968. He has more than 45 years of experience in higher education in the international, national, state, and university levels. He was inducted into the College of Education Hall of Fame in 2010. Kathleen currently serves as the senior advisor, vision and strategy, for consulting firm Proteus International. Their hope is that this fund will encourage future teachers to experience different cultures while they are students.

Anne 'Kiki' Wood Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Anne 'Kiki' Wood Endowed Scholarship was established in 2014 in memory of Kiki Wood by her husband, Dr. Jeffrey A. Wood, Dean of the College of Applied Science and Technology. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to a student pursuing an elementary education degree with a reading teacher endorsement. Kiki had a passion for teaching children to read and delighted in teaching children to make emotional connections to academic subjects. She infused agriculture into the curriculum by establishing a school wide Ag Day, linking local producers with eager children and created "farm baskets" for the McLean County Farm Bureau which became a popular addition to the school curriculum throughout Unit 5 and surrounding districts. She was widely known for the popular classes she created and taught many years in the ISU College for Youth. She was especially fond of teaching literature and language by using culture and cooking examples in her classes.

This fund was established in 2009 for the purpose of providing financial assistance to adult learners in the master's degree program in college student personnel administration at Illinois State University. Hickrod began her career at Illinois State in 1966 as a faculty member in the English Department and later became the coordinator for academic advisement for the University. She completed her Ph.D. in educational administration while working full time and being a single parent, retiring in 1993. Each candidate for this scholarship must be enrolled in good standing and have completed at least nine credit hours in the program, be a nontraditional student, and submit an essay and a letter of reference. Preference will be given to part-time graduate students. Clyde B. Coombs Endowed Fund
The Clyde B. Coombs Endowed Fund was established in 2011 by Clyde B. Combs as a living legacy for University High School students who need financial assistance during their high school career, and in honor of Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's School (ISSCS) "homers." Clyde grew up at ISSCS in Normal. At the time that Clyde lived there, children completed their high school education at University High School. Following graduation he enrolled in college as an art major but was shortly thereafter drafted into the military. While in the Vietnam War, he served his country as a military police officer where he earned the title of Provost Marshall Investigator. After the war he enjoyed a 32-year career at Caterpillar where he became the inspector in Security Police for World Wide Headquarters. Clyde believes that his time at U-High taught him to be a good citizen.

Tom and Betty Tegtmeyer Education Scholarship
The Tom and Betty Tegtmeyer Education Scholarship scholarship was established in 2012 by Tom Tegtmeyer in memory of his wife of 32 years. The purpose is to provide financial assistance to graduates of Ottawa High School who intend to pursue a career as an elementary education teacher. Betty graduated from Ottawa High in 1965 as a member of the National Honor Society. Tom and Betty both graduated from Illinois State University, Betty in 1969 and Tom in 1970. Betty's teaching career, mostly at the fourth grade level, took her to Lake Zurich and Cincinnati. She found time away from teaching to raise two children, Kelly Ann and Bradley. Betty cherished her students' comments, "You are tough, but always fair." She always took new teachers under her wing, sharing materials with them. A memorial garden was dedicated in her honor by the administration of the elementary school where she taught in Ohio.
Lawson Legacy Family Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Lawson Legacy Family Scholarship was initially established in 2009 in honor of the 60th wedding anniversary of Robert Kent Lawson and Helen Delores Akers Lawson. Robert and Delores met while attending Illinois State Normal University. Robert's mother, Avis Anna Crosby Lawson, also an alum of Illinois State, influenced all four of her children to pursue higher education degrees. In addition to Robert, his sister Ruth also graduated from ISNU, along with five of her seven children. In addition, daughter, Cindy Leigh Lawson ('73, '77, '93) is also an Illinois State graduate. Following Robert's death in 2010 daughter, Cindy Lawson and her husband Steven Kester decided to provide a tribute to the Lawson family legacy at Illinois State and established the Lawson Family Legacy Endowed Scholarship Fund. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide assistance to outstanding special education majors who exemplify the excellence of Illinois State University special education graduates.

Endowment for Mary and Jean Borg Center for Reading and Literacy
The purpose of this fund is to support the mission and work of the Mary and Jean Borg Center for Reading and Literacy: to improve the reading and literacy achievement of all citizens by providing support to local school districts and community groups, employers, regional offices of education, and relevant state agencies. In 2008, by action of the Trustees of the University, the Center for Reading and Literacy in the College of Education was renamed in honor of Mary Borg, Jean Borg's mother, and in recognition of Jean Borg's generous gifts to the Illinois State University Foundation. Born in 1901, Mary was a women's rights advocate. She was a high school graduate, a nurse, a composer, and a seamstress. Jean admired her mother's independent spirit and encouragement. Following her graduation from ISNU in 1950, Jean enjoyed a long and successful career in education.

The Thake Family Endowment was created in 2010 to support the professional growth of faculty associates at Thomas Metcalf School. This award was established by the Thake family which has more than 90 years of involvement with Illinois State University. After Mel Thake's death in 2006, a scholarship was started to honor his passion for the outdoor education program at Metcalf School. In 2010, Barbara Thake, his wife, and children, Mary Beth Thake and Bill Thake, decided to expand this scholarship to honor the entire family's legacy at the University, which has played an important part in each of their lives. It is in this spirit that the Thake family would like to give back to Illinois State University. They have a special interest in programs related to physical education but the family looks forward to knowing the innovative ideas that can be fostered with this award.

While at ISU, Mrs. Appel was an outstanding student and was appointed as one of the Bone Scholars of 1989-1990. During her first year as a dedicated teacher in the field of special education, teaching children with multiple disabilities, Mrs. Appel donated $10,000 to the Illinois State University Foundation to establish a fund to encourage special education majors to achieve high standards of academic work and professional development.

Marcella Bunis, a graduate of Gage Park High School in Chicago, attended Illinois State (Normal) University from 1957 to 1960. Fell Hall Friends, Class of 1961 Endowed Teaching Scholarship Council for Teacher Education
The Fell Hall Friends, Class of 1961 Endowed Teaching Scholarship was established in 2009 as a restricted scholarship. As of June 30, 2012, the fund became endowed. It was established by a group of alumni who refer to themselves as the Fell Hall Friends. They all lived in Fell Hall during their time as students at Illinois State University. They all graduated with degrees in education and became teachers. They feel so strongly about the excellent education that they received here that they created this scholarship to provide financial assistance to students planning to enter the education field and become teachers. The Fell Hall Friends desire to create this scholarship as a lasting legacy and symbol of their belief in the University's commitment to excellence in education.

Eunice Speer Scholarship
The Eunice H. Speer Endowment Scholarship Fund was established in 1974 as a tribute to Eunice H. Speer in recognition of her retirement following 30 years of service to ISU as a library science instructor. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide scholarships to ISU students who are studying library science. Each candidate for Eunice H. Speer Endowment Scholarship must be a certified teacher who intends to complete required coursework at ISU for the library information specialist endorsement. Preference will be given to individuals who are not eligible for reimbursement of program costs from a current employer. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Investment Pool. The Eunice H. Speer Scholarship was established in 1974 as a tribute to Eunice H. Speer in recognition of her retirement following 30 years of service to Illinois State library science. From 1974 to 1987, scholarships were awarded to students for scholastic achievement and service to Mu Chapter of Alpha Beta Alpha. In 1987 the library science program was phased out, and fund purpose changed to support library staff and faculty with opportunities to improve their education. In 2007, the University developed coursework leading to endorsement as Library Information Specialists and the fund has returned to its original purpose of providing scholarships to students studying library science. In 2017 the Post-Baccalaureate Program in School Librarianship, moved from Milner Library to the College of Education and selection of the recipients and fiscal oversight moved to the Dean of College of Education.

Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. This program was initiated in 2001 when Paul J. Baker wanted to make sure that the beginnings of such a program were in place by the time of his retirement from the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations later that year. He began teaching at Illinois State in 1965 in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and in 1992 was named Distinguished Professor at the University. The purpose of the Leadership in Educational Administration for the Development of Schools (LEADS) Fellowship program is to provide part-time EAF doctoral students with the opportunity to work individually with a faculty mentor on an action research project that addresses real-life school problems.

Dr. Tom Crumpler Scholarship
The Dr. Tom Crumpler Scholarship was established by Thomas Lucey in order to support the College of Education. Dr. Tom Crumpler was an accomplished faculty member in the School of Teaching and Learning (TCH). His research focused on formative assessment in literacy, teacher identity, and process drama as a tool for learning. During his tenure at Illinois State University, he directed the Mary and Jean Borg Center for Reading and Literacy, The Reading Recovery Program, and the doctoral program, and he took on other leadership roles, such as co-editor of Action in Teacher Education, a national peer-reviewed academic journal. He was also a recipient of the College of Education's Outstanding Researcher Award. The Dr. Tom Crumpler Scholarship is being established by Thomas Lucey to honor Dr. Crumpler's dedication to the College of Education.

The Norma J. Marks Memorial COE Scholarship was established by her loving son, Christopher Marks in order to support and recognize education students enrolled in the Early Elementary Education program at ISU. Norma was an educator for 38 years and impacted countless students that she taught, mentored, and supported.

The McMullen Family Endowed Scholarship for Teacher Education was established by Drew Jaegle and Jennifer McMullen-Jaegle in 2016. The Carroll and Judith Sigler Educator Scholarship was established by Carroll Sigler in order to leave a legacy for future educators and honor the careers of both Carroll and Judith who dedicated their lives to teaching. The goal of this scholarship is to provide funding for Redbirds during their student teaching semester.

The Metcalf School General Renovation Fund was established to support physical improvements to the Metcalf Laboratory School at Illinois State University. Enhancements include but are not limited to updating the air-conditioning, providing for new laboratory space, enhancing technology, and other property, building and equipment needs at Metcalf.
Jared Iman Washington Memorial College of Education Scholarship
The Jared Iman Washington Memorial College of Education Scholarship was established in 2019 by Christopher Marks. The scholarship provides support for students majoring in elementary, middle, or secondary level teacher education in the College of Education at Illinois State University. Applicant must submit personal statement addressing their motivation to become an educator, including the importance and value of diversity and students of color in the field of education. Preference is given to students with demonstrated financial need.
Wheeler Foundation Fund for Special Education Students
The Wheeler Foundation Fund for Special Education Students was established upon the passing of Charles and Maxine Wheeler. Maxine, a special education teacher and Charles a psychologist, dedicated their lives to enriching and empowering students with learning and behavioral challenges. From 1964-2002, the Wheeler's operated the Wheeler home Farm School in Rankin, where students resided and benefited from the educational expertise of Maxine and Charles. The Wheeler Foundation board was moved to establish this scholarship to ensure teachers will continue to be prepared to help those students that the wheeler's were dedicated to and committed to providing a better quality of life.
U-High General Renovation Fund
The U-High General Renovation Fund was established in April 2002 to support physical improvements of the property, building, technology, and equipment at University High School at Illinois State University.
Wroan Engineering and Technology Center
This fund was established by John L. Wroan III in 2007, in the name of his family, to be used for renovations at University High School, specifically to transform the Industrial Arts room into a state-of-the-art engineering/technology center. Since John graduated in 1945 to the time his construction firm won the bid to construct the University High School building in 1964, he has always been a strong advocate and supporter of the Laboratory Schools. The transformed wing of University High will serve students interested in learning graphic design, computer-assisted drafting, and other applied technology fields and will allow a greater variety and number of classes to be conducted at the school. John's firm also constructed Hancock Stadium at Illinois State.
Delora Mast Endowed Teaching Scholarship
The Delora Mast Endowed Teaching Scholarship was established by Karel Thompson to honor her mother's career as an educator. Delora, a full-time mother for many years, returned to school at age 50 to pursue a teaching degree, and graduated from Illinois State University's College of Education in 1965 with a degree in social sciences education. She taught in the Peoria suburbs for more than a decade and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students and helping them to understand that learning about history can be fun and interesting.
John Joseph Kennedy Endowed Scholarship
The John Joseph Kennedy Scholarship was established through a documented planned bequest from John Joseph Kennedy, which is valued at approximately $20,000 or more. Each Candidate must meet the following criteria: 1. Enrolled as a new freshman at ISU as a major in the College of Education. 2. Demonstrated a strong interest in teaching as a professional career. 3. Achieved at least a 3.5 high school GPA on a 4.0 scale. 4. Have an ACT composit score of 25 or above or equivalent SAT score. 5. Documented need for financial assistance as determined by the ISU office of financial aid. 6. Submission of three references from high school faculty. 7. Demonstrated leadership through involvement with extracurricular and/or community activities. 8. This scholarship was established in 2007 by John Joseph Kennedy. He graduated from Illinois State University in 1961 and received his bachelor of science degree in education, with an English-journalism major. During his time at Illinois State University he held various positions on the school newspaper, the Daily Vidette, and became its editor prior to his graduation. After graduation he relocated to the San Francisco Bay area where he taught high school English, journalism, and social studies. In establishing this scholarship he wished to express his gratitude to the University for the excellent education he received here. Since he was entirely self-supporting while in college, the intent of this scholarship is to assist in making it financially possible for worthy students to attend Illinois State University.

This scholarship memorializes Charles DeGarmo who was an outstanding student, teacher, principal and professor. It is awarded annually to a graduate or undergraduate student with a strong commitment to a professional career in public education. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Charles DeGarmo Scholars Endowment was established in 1993 by the College of Education to memorialize Charles DeGarmo who was an outstanding student, teacher, principal, and professor. It is awarded annually to a graduate or undergraduate student with a strong commitment to a professional career in public education.
Justin E. Jensen Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was created with donations from family, friends, former teachers, classmates, and supporters from Justin's hometown of Bartlett as well as surrounding communities. Justin enjoyed volunteering with Special Olympics events, participated in activities with his school, was a National Honor Society member, and was athlete of the year at his high school in 2006. He came to Illinois State to pursue an education as a special education teacher. He realized that dream in May 2010 but tragically passed away one month before his first job as a teacher. The fund was created to honor and remember Justin's commitment to teaching students with special needs. The purpose is to provide financial support for a student planning to become a special education teacher, with preference given to male applicants.

The Ruth Stroud Memorial Award fund was established in 1979 from funds received from Ruth Stroud's estate, attorney, family, and friends. Because of Ruth Stroud's close ties with University High School, an award honoring the outstanding female senior student was established in her honor. The Ruth Stroud Memorial Award is presented annually to the outstanding female student at University High School. Assets of this endowment are invested in the ISU Endowment Investment Pool. The Ruth Stroud Memorial Award fund was established in 1979 from funds received from Ruth Stroud's estate, attorney, family, and friends. Because of Ruth Stroud's close ties with University High School, an award honoring the outstanding female senior student was established in her honor. The Rebecca Thoman Ward Endowed Scholarship was established in 2017 by Rebecca Thoman Ward and William Ward. This fund is to be held in perpetuity and the income used for the education of graduate students working towards a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction. All graduates admitted to a graduate program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction who have completed 12 ISU hours of graduate instruction are eligible for consideration for the C and I Graduate Research and Develoment Scholarship. Assets of this endowment are invested in the ISU Endowment Investment Pool. The School of Teaching and Learning Graduate Research and Development Scholarship provides support for graduate students working toward a graduate degree in the School of Teaching an Learning (formerly the department of Curriculum and Instruction). Marilyn impacted so many students throughout her career, and her family were moved to create a legacy of the work Marilyn did as a consummate educator, lifelong learner, and supporter of future educators to succeed in the career Marilyn so dearly loved.

The Julie and Bob Dobski Early Childhood Education Student Impact Fund was established by Little Jewels Learning Center in order to provide financial support for Early Childhood Education students experiencing unexpected hardship.
Thomas M. Barger Family Endowed Scholarship
Thomas M. Barger was a beloved instructor of physics and chemistry at University High School from 1913-1943. He left an indelible mark on the students of U-High and was fondly remembered in many poems, skits, and for his saxophone performance during senior activities in 1925. The first edition of the U-High yearbook, The Clarion, was dedicated to him in 1929. The Thomas M. Barger Family Scholarship was established in 2015 by Carter and Thomas Barger, III in honor of their grandfather. The scholarship will be awarded annually, with one award given to a U-high student who excels in physics and one award to a student who excels in chemistry.
Ferne Hinshaw-Hardt Endowed Scholarship Fund
In 1987, Darlene H. Baxter, ISNU graduate 1943, made provision through a bequest in her will to establish a scholarship fund in honor of her sister, Ferne Hinshaw-Hardt. The scholarship will be used to assist female students attending ISU. First priority will be given to qualified female students who are graduates of Octavia High School (or the school district). Should there be no qualified students from the Octavia School District in any one year or the school district cease to exist, the scholarship(s) will be awarded to qualified female students from the Central Illinois area. Qualified students must have a proven academic record (2.5 grade point average or better based on a 4.0 scale). Although financial need is not the most critical factor for consideration, all else being equal, the students demonstrating need will be given priority. Assets of this endowment are invested in the ISU Endowment Investment Pool. In 1987, Darlene H. Baxter Severin, an ISNU '43 graduate who went on to teach 31 years, made provision through a bequest in her will to establish a scholarship fund in honor of her sister, Ferne Hinshaw-Hardt, to assist female students attending ISU, with priority given to graduates of Ridgeview High School with demonstrated need. Ferne had stepped in when their mother died, raised Darlene from age two, and encouraged her to seek a college degree. Candidates were to have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5/4.0. In 2009, in consultation with the executor of Severin's estate, this award was updated to follow current practices of the College of Education. The purpose is now to provide financial assistance to female students majoring in education who intend to become teachers, have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5/4.0, and have demonstrated financial need, with priority given to students from Central Illinois.

Dorothy Jean (Wilson) Hostettler, who became his wife, graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1940 and later earned a masters degree from ISNU in 1958 in educational supervision. It is the wish of his sister, Barbara Beyer, executor of his estate, that this endowed scholarship be established in honor of Roy and Dorothy Hostettler, to provide financial support to young people planning to become teachers. Special Education Assistive Technology Center Savings Fund
The former Kara Peters Endowed Chair in Special Education Assistive Technology (5306818) was closed at the request of the original donor. The remaining (as of June 30, 2011) principal and expendable funds from that endowment were transferred to the new fund. The Special Education Assistive Technology Center Savings Fund will be used to support the salary of the director of the SEAT Center.
Robert C. and Susan Lee Walling Endowed Fund for College Student Personnel Administration
The Robert C. and Susan Lee Walling Endowed Fund for College Student Personnel Administration was established in 2018 to provide financial support and encouragement to future higher education leaders who have a foundation rooted in College Student Personnel Administration and the intent to pursue a Doctoral Degree in Higher Education Administration and high leadership positions. The scholar will be selected based on demonstrated academic merit, professional development, and leadership potential to serve in high leadership positions in College Student Personnel Administration and/or Higher Education Administration. Robert and Susan want to support a student scholar with the potential to become a future leader who embodies the student personnel perspective and can effectively implement that at the highest levels for administration.

Vivette Ravel Rifkin Memorial Scholarship

The Vivette Ravel Rifkin Endowed Scholarship was established to honor Vivette Ravel Rifkin, who dedicated her life to assisting persons who are blind and/or visually impaired. Vivette began reading books to her daughter, Jill, to help her experience the joys of reading. Realizing that other individuals had the same need, Vivette founded Educational Tape Recording for the Blind (ETRB) in Chicago. She led the organization for more than 42 years. Though she graduated from high school at age 16 and received no further education, Rifkin taped more than 3,000 college and graduate school textbooks in her lifetime. Her lifelong commitment to educating individuals with visual impairments resulted in her being awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1999. This scholarship provides support for Illinois State University students teaching those with visual impairments.

The Houston-Arbogast Family University High School Fine Arts Scholarship was established in 2017 with a gift from the Arbogast Family Charitable Trust to support the activities, programs, student needs, and operations associated with the Fine Arts department at University High School. The fund may support undertakings and events that encourage and support students in all areas of chorus, theatre, dance, music education, and travel or fees associated with the activities. Special consideration is given to those students that demonstrate financial need to participate in these activities and are committed, passionate, and engaged with the program.

Dirk Smid Memorial Scholarship at University High School
The Dirk Smid Memorial Scholarship at University High School was established in 2009 as an expendable scholarship to honor Dirk Smid, who coached football and taught mathematics at U-High for 18 years prior to his death in 2008. The scholarship was funded through proceeds from the annual Duffin' for Dirk golf tournament started by a group of area football coaches who wanted Dirk to be remembered for his outstanding leadership qualities and his strong connections with his students and colleagues. In April 2021, the Dirk Smid Memorial Scholarship reached the minimum funding needed to establish a permanent endowment.

Rex Scholarship was established in September 2000 with an initial gift from the Evelyn J. Rex Trust. Additional gifts from the Trust were received in 2006 along with gifts from other donors. Evelyn Rex passed away in 2009, leaving her estate for the scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in the Department of Special Education with preference given to applicants in either the deaf and hard of hearing or the visual disabilities sequence.

The Irvin Family Endowed Scholarship Fund provides support for students seeking a doctorate (Ph.D.) in educational administration and foundations. Candidates should be experienced educators and administrators interested in the areas of social justice, advocacy, and equality. Recipient's work should represent this democratic ideal through theory and practice. Applicants for the award should submit an essay with application identifying how they have used the democratic ideal in their professional and academic life and how they plan to use it in future endeavors.
Peg and Roy Van Meter Endowed Scholarship
The Peg and Roy Van Meter Endowed Scholarship in the College of Education was established in 2015. The scholarship is given to an undergraduate student who has completed at least 60 credit hours with a declared major in the College of Education. Peg Van Meter graduated from Illinois State University in 1965 and received her Master of Education degree from DePaul University in Chicago in 1983. She has also done a considerable amount of postgraduate work at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Peg taught in grades K-5 for 35 years, retiring in 2000. Roy Van Meter retired in January 2005 having worked for SKF/CR Industries in Elgin for 44 years. He has been involved with the manufacture of oil seals for the automobile and space industries, and has also served with the United States Army in Germany. Peg credits her late father, Howard B. Thomas, as the impetus behind her philanthropy and her husband, Roy, for his suggestion to make the first planned gift to Illinois State.

The scholarship is awarded to a University High School graduating senior intending to major in education or a related discipline. Derek Nanni University High School Memorial Scholarship
The Derek Nanni University High School Memorial Scholarship was established by friends and family to honor the life and legacy of Derek Nanni, a proud Pioneer of the U-High class of 2020, whose life ended way too soon. The scholarship supports a graduating senior of University High School enrolled in a college or university in the fall semester following graduation. Recipient must exhibit a positive school spirit, display selflessness and be an active participant in school sports and extracurricular activities.

The Grady Student Teacher Scholarship was established by Anne Grady in order to assist in defraying the cost of education for majors in the College of Education during their required clinical or student teaching sequence.

Frank originally established this endowment to provide funds for students who wanted to participate in sports but needed financial assistance. The Hubbard family has long been associated with U-High as students and then as educators and wanted to continue the legacy of helping young athletes. The purpose of the Chiodo-Hubbard Endowment Fund is to provide assistance to student-athletes who are unable to meet some of the financial expectations that involvement in University High School Athletics necessitates.

Janice McElvain is creating a Back-a-Bird scholarship to award students in the Special Education field. Due to the outstanding education Janice received at Illinois State University, she went on to have a successful career as a Special Education teacher. She wants to enable SPED students at Illinois State University to have that same opportunity.

Vicki Lynn (Crook) Dechman Memorial Education Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Vicki Lynn (Crook) Dechman by her husband of 42 years, Bernard "Dutch" Dechman. Vicki received her bachelor's degree in art from Illinois State in 1967 and her master's from Bank Street College of Education. Dutch received his bachelor's from Blackburn College in 1969 and his master's degree in psychology from Illinois State in 1972. They married in August, 1970. Vicki worked for the Carlinville Public School District for 34 years, most of those as the elementary art teacher. She was devoted to her students and an advocate for the more challenged student. Dutch was a school psychologist in Alton for 35 years. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students pursuing a career in teacher education.

The Heidi Mullejans Scholarship in Education was established from the Estate of Monica Hege, Daughter of Illinois State University Alum Heidi Mullejans. Heidi Mullejans received her BS degree in mathematics education in 1959 from Illinois State University. Heidi spent the majority of her career as a high school math teacher for Glenbrook South H.S. in Glenview, IL. She was a beloved and well-known teacher and worked there until her retirement in the 1990s. The scholarship supports students in two areas of study--Math Education sequence and/or Teacher Education, not limited to Math Education for students meeting the following criteria. The scholarship provides no less than $5,000 to a student in the Math Education sequence and no less than $1,500 to any Teacher Education major.
Amy's Gift Endowed Scholarship
Amy O'Reilly Fisher was a devoted mother, wife, and educator. She received degrees in deaf education (Illinois State University, 1993) and educational administration (Governors State University, 2002), and her career with special needs and deaf children spanned 10 years. She always went the extra mile to ensure her students received whatever was needed to succeed despite their challenges. The Amy's Gift Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Amy's family for the purpose of providing financial support for a student majoring in special education, with a preference for deaf and hard of hearing majors. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Amy O'Reilly Fisher was a devoted mother, wife, and educator. She received degrees in deaf education (Illinois State University, 1993) and educational administration (Governors State University, 2002), and her career with special needs and deaf children spanned 10 years. She always went the extra mile to ensure her students received whatever was needed to succeed despite their challenges. The Amy's Gift Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by Amy's family for the purpose of providing financial support for a student majoring in special education, with a preference for deaf and hard of hearing majors. Edward R. Hines Higher Education Endowed Scholarship
Each candidate for an Edward R. Hines Higher Education Scholarship must hold status as a doctoral student enrolled in the higher education concentration, have completed at least 24 semester credit hours as part of the doctoral program, have at least 3.25 GPA, demonstrate integrity, and have a commitment to a career in higher education and leadership on behalf of the higher education community. Assets of this endowment are invested in the ISU Endowment Investment Pool. In 2005 The Edward R. Hines Higher Education Endowed Scholarship was created. The Edward R. Hines Higher Education Endowed Scholarship perpetuates the values exemplified by Dr. Hines- academic achievement, career commitment, integrity, and leadership- values so important for higher education leaders. Ed Hines came to Illinois State University in 1981 as an Associate Professor. At Illinois State, he was tenured in 1984, promoted to Professor in 1985, and selected Distinguished Professor in 1997. Editor and publisher of "Grapevine" for 15 years, Hines was quoted often in the "Chronicle of Higher Education" regarding the interstate higher education finance data published in "Grapevine". He has authored or coauthored five books and 50 journal articles and monographs. He has chaired nearly 50 doctoral dissertations and served on another 50 dissertation committees.
Bowman Fellows Endowment
The Bowman Fellows was established in 2004 in honor of Illinois State University President Al Bowman. In 2012 the fund was permanently endowed through a gift from John '81 and Therese '81 Rigas to pay tribute to Bowman's legacy as he announced his retirement as president. Under Bowman's leadership, Illinois State was transformed into a first-choice Illinois public university, ranking for seven straight years as one of the top 100 public universities in the nation for quality and value. The average freshman ACT, retention rate and graduation rate achieved historic highs. Bowman joined the University in 1978 as a faculty member in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology. He served as department chair for eight years. Bowman Fellows are education majors committed to being visionary leaders on campus, in their communities, and in their future field of education.
Aubertine Family Scholarship for University High School
The Aubertine Family Scholarship for University High School provides financial assistance for graduating seniors who will enroll in a college or university in the fall semester following graduating from University High School and plan to major in education, English, or literature. Matt Aubertine, a 1976 graduate of U-High and 1987 graduate of Illinois State established this scholarship to honor his parents, Horace and Barbara Lee.
Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's School (ISSCS) Memorial Scholarship
The Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's School (ISSCS) Memorial Scholarship was established in 2018 by Bjarne Ullsvik to support students attending University High School from single parent families who will enroll in a college or university in the fall semester following graduation from University High School. Bjarne, a 1956 U-High graduate, attended U-High at a time when a portion of the enrollment included students that were residents of the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Children School (ISSCS). He was inspired by the support, assistance, and sense of family that U-High provided these students and how it impacted their lives to go on from high school and have successful lives. Bjarne was moved to establish this scholarship to honor, encourage and motivate students that come from single parent households or those raised in foster care.
Madge E. Bayston Endowed Scholarship in Special Education
The Madge E Bayston Endowed Scholarship was established in October 2013 to provide financial support to students majoring in Special Education at Illinois State University. The scholarship may be renewable for an additional year provided the student re-applies and is selected as the recipient. Ms. Bayston received her BS in Elementary Education and MS in Reading from Illinois State.
Dorothy Pratt Myers College of Education Scholarship
The Dorothy Pratt Myers College of Education Scholarship was established by the Myers Family Foundation (Beverly Nelson and Dennis Myers) in order to honor Dorothy Pratt Myers who had a successful career in the family business of crop protection. Dorothy, a 1950 graduate of ISNU, taught for four years but her strong foundation as an educator transferred into other positions she held after leaving the classroom.
CJ Hamilton-Hamada Family University High School Scholarship
The CJ Hamilton-Hamada Family University High School Scholarship was established in 2017 by Chris and Laura Hamilton in honor of the families and to recognize their son Christopher Thomas "CJ" Hamilton and his inspiring journey while at H-high. As a student athlete, CJ set track records at U-High and ISU, where he was 2013 MVC 800 meter Champion.
Donald and Gloria Eklund Endowed Scholarship
In order to honor their parents on their 60th wedding anniversary in 2011, David Eklund and his family, together with his siblings (Michael, Julie, and Barbara) and their families, established this scholarship. Donald and Gloria are both graduates of Knoxville High School, and both were valedictorians of their classes, he in 1947 and she in 1948. Because they were valedictorians, they each received state scholarships to attend Illinois State Normal University, where he earned a B.S.E. in 1955 and she earned her B.S.E. in 1952. The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the Eklunds and their education at ISNU in perpetuity, while at the same time providing financial scholarship support for students who plan to become teachers.
Nancy G. Swayne Endowed Scholarship
The Nancy G. Swayne Endowed Scholarship was established in 2005 by Marjorie Swayne to honor her daughter, Nancy G. Swayne, who passed away in 1998. Nancy Swayne attended Illinois State from 1964 to 1968, receiving her BS in elementary education. The Nancy G. Swayne Scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman who has demonstrated leadership involvement in extracurricular and/or community activities. Preference will be given to a graduate of Rock Island High School.
Dr. Janet W. Bedford Scholarship in Education Administration
The Dr. Janet W. Bedford Scholarship in Education Administration was established in 2017 by Janet and Russell Bedford to provide financial assistance for doctoral students majoring in Educational Administration Foundations.
Rose E. Parker Graduate Student Scholarship
This award includes a minimum of $500 cash award and the inscription of the student recipient's name on a permanent department plaque. This annual award is presented at the Graduate Student Reception and scholarship recognition in late Spring of each year. The recipient must be a current special education graduate student who plans to graduate in May, August, or December of the calendar year in which the award is given. The recipient must be nominated by a graduate faculty member. Selection is based upon scholarship and service. Consideration is given for teaching, professional presentations, research conducted, publications, collaboration with faculty, service to the profession, and similar documentation of commitment and service to the profession of special education. Assets of this endowment are invested in the ISU Endowment Investment Pool. The Rose E. Parker Graduate Student Scholarship was established in 1989 through a gift from the Rose E. Parker Trust. The fund provides financial support for a graduate student in the Special Education Department who intended to teach children with disabilities. Candidates much be enrolled in good standing at Illinois State University as a graduate student in the Department of Special Education's master's, doctoral, or Director of Special Education (DOSE) program, with at least 9 credits completed in their degree program.
Caffey Family Memorial Scholarship
To establish an award supporting Scholarship for students pursuing a degree in education. Brandon, Rodney and Gregory, all graduates of Illinois State University, were moved to establish this scholarship because of the importance of education instilled in them by their parents and their desire to impact students at Illinois State University, through the legacy of a scholarship to honor their family.
Minnie Vautrin Memorial Scholarship
Wilhelmina "Minnie" Vautrin was an ISU alum who was a Christian missionary in China for 28 years. She is known for the care and protection of at least 10,000 Chinese refugees during the Nanjing Massacre. The Minnie Vautrin Memorial Scholarship was established by Thomas Lucey in 2024 to honor her heroism.
Lab School Classroom Technology Enhancement Fund
The Lab School Classroom Technology Enhancement Fund was established in April 2002 to support physical improvements, including technology at University High School at Illinois State University.
Charlotte Corray Kinkade Endowed Scholarship
The Charlotte Corray Kinkade Endowed Scholarship Fund for middle level education was created in 2006 by Charlotte Corray Kinkade. Charlotte Kinkade established this scholarship to provide financial support for students who plan to become teachers of language arts in middle schools. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Charlotte Corray Kinkade Endowed Scholarship Fund for middle level education was created in 2006 by Charlotte Corray Kinkade. Charlotte Kinkade established this scholarship to provide financial support for students who plan to become teachers of language arts in middle schools.
Dr. Meg Hutchins Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Meg Hutchins Memorial Endowed Scholarship was created by colleagues, family, alumni, and friends to honor the memory of Margaret Penn Hutchins, a faculty member in the Special Education Department from 1995-2005. Her interests focused on successful transition of youth with disabilities from school to adult life. She was posthumously awarded the Council for Exceptional Children's 2005 Outstanding Educator Award.
Metcalf Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Fund
The Metcalf Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Fund (formerly called the Metcalf Applied Technology Center Fund) was established to promote learning and provide experiences for students in STEM content. Funds may be used to support programs, physical improvements, and general expenses associated with STEM efforts.
