Donald F. Templeton Scholarship
The Donald F. Templeton Scholarship was established by his family to honor Don's commitment to education. Don grew up in Waterloo, Iowa; attended college at Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa); served in the US Army during World War II and taught a few years at his high school alma mater before moving his family to Normal in 1950. He taught English and journalism at University High School before moving to Illinois State's administration in 1966, where he served as Assistant to the Dean of Academic Affairs. Don always saw the good in students, making sure they knew they had to do well in their studies to come back into the university community after academic probation. His children still hear from former students who, because of "Mr. T", were allowed to return to graduate and succeed in life.
