Isabelle S. Purnell Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund for Future Teachers
The Isabelle S. Purnell Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund for Future Teachers was established in 2009 through a bequest from the estate of Isabelle S. Purnell, who died in 2006 at the age of 93. She was born in Mahomet and received a B.S.E. from ISNU in 1938 and an M.S.E. from the University of Illinois in 1952. She worked most of her life at the U of I and traveled extensively. The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support to students who plan to become teachers and are enrolled as new freshman majors in the College of Education. Each candidate must be ranked in the top quarter of high school graduating class or have an ACT composite score of 24 or above or equivalent SAT score, and must have demonstrated leadership through involvement with extracurricular and/or community activities. The scholarship is to be used for educational expenses.
