Peg and Roy Van Meter Endowed Scholarship
The Peg and Roy Van Meter Endowed Scholarship in the College of Education was established in 2015. The scholarship is given to an undergraduate student who has completed at least 60 credit hours with a declared major in the College of Education. Peg Van Meter graduated from Illinois State University in 1965 and received her Master of Education degree from DePaul University in Chicago in 1983. She has also done a considerable amount of postgraduate work at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Peg taught in grades K-5 for 35 years, retiring in 2000. Roy Van Meter retired in January 2005 having worked for SKF/CR Industries in Elgin for 44 years. He has been involved with the manufacture of oil seals for the automobile and space industries, and has also served with the United States Army in Germany. Peg credits her late father, Howard B. Thomas, as the impetus behind her philanthropy and her husband, Roy, for his suggestion to make the first planned gift to Illinois State.
