Howard Paul and Eithal Hanson Curry Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2002 through a trust in the will of Eithal Hanson Curry '46. It honors the teaching careers of her husband and herself. Both worked their way through college. Howard Paul Curry '45, M.S.E. '46, grew up in Waverly, taught at Irving Junior High School, and served as principal for many years at schools in Bloomington and Rockford. Eithal decided in third grade that she would be a teacher. She earned two teachers certificates and taught six years in South Dakota and several more years in Illinois before earning her college degree twelve years after graduating from high school. When she retired, she had taught school for 41 consecutive years. The scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior enrolled in the College of Education, with a 3.0/4.0 GPA, who plans to teach in grades K-8. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool.
