Dr. Marilyn K. Moore Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in 2011 by Marilyn Moore's daughters and their husbands, as a surprise, to honor her for her many contributions to the field of education. Marilyn was born on the Southside of Chicago in 1946 and grew up in a time where there were many social injustices. She believed that it was unfair that opportunities were not the same for minority children, especially in relation to education. This motivated her to become a teacher. In 1989 she became a professor at Illinois State University. She organized Urban Bus Tours which take education majors to urban classrooms throughout Chicago and pair them up with inner-city elementary school students in mentor/mentee relationships. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support for students majoring in elementary education or early childhood education who plan to become teachers for diverse populations.
