Lois Jett Historic Costume Collection Fund

This endowment was established in 1978 by Lois Jett. These funds are used to help to maintain the collection of costumes and fashion samples for the department. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Lois Jett Historic Costume Collection Fund was established in 1978 by Lois Jett to help maintain the collection of costumes and fashion samples for the department. Funds are to benefit the Lois R. Jett Endowed Scholarship Fund should the historic costume collection ever be eliminated from the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Dr. Connie J. Ley Faculty Research Award in Family and Consumer Sciences

The Family and Consumer Science Faculty Research Award was established to support FCS Faculty Research. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Dr. Connie J. Ley Faculty Research Award in Family and Consumer Sciences, formerly called the Family and Consumer Sciences Faculty Research Award, was established in 1987 to provide a monetary award to a faculty member who has made a significant contribution to the department, the university, and the profession in family and consumer sciences through their research/scholarly activities. In 2019 the fund was renamed in honor of former Chair, Dr. Connie J. Ley, who was instrumental in the creation of this award. Connie served as Chair of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly Home Economics) between 1984-1996.

Tricia Widner Johnson Memorial Scholarship

Tricia Widner Johnson was a beloved faculty member in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State University. Tricia passed away suddenly in 2011 at the relatively young age of 36, leaving behind a husband and three sons. Tricia was an associate professor, a wonderful teacher, an inspiring mentor, and an expert in the area of clothing and consumer behavior. She also served as the director of the Lois Jett Historical Costume Collection, obtaining software to catalog the collection, designing new storage facilities with temperature and humidity control, and working with students using it for their internship and independent study projects. Tricia also served as advisor to the Apparel, Merchandising, and Design Association's registered student organization and their annual fashion show. The love and admiration Tricia's students had for her led them to initiate this scholarship for students within the apparel, merchandising, and design sequence at ISU.

M. Warren Feeney Fund

The Mae Warren Feeney Home Economics Scholarship Fund was established by Mae Feeney in the late 1950’s. Feeney was dean of women at U-High and also taught home economics. The scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior student majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences and demonstrating financial need. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Mae Warren Feeney Home Economics Scholarship Fund was established by Mae Feeney in the late 1950's. Feeney was dean of women at U-High and also taught home economics. The scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior student majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences and demonstrating financial need.

Barbara M. Clauser Endowed Scholarship

Ronald P. Clauser established this fund in memory of his wife, Barbara M. Clauser. She was born Barbara Kay Manus in Lincoln, Illinois; married Ron in 1957; and was graduated from Illinois State Normal University later that year. She then taught high school home economics for one year. After Ron's graduation, they moved to Ohio and, later, the Carolina's. Barbara never returned to full time teaching, but used her skills to provide for their three daughters and son. The purpose of this fund is to provide educational support to undergraduate or graduate students majoring in a degree program within the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Recipients must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0, have at least 30 credit hours, be full-time students, and have demonstrated financial need. Expenses are to be used for completing degree requirements. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Ronald P. FCS Student Ambassador Fund

To establish an award for a junior or senior FCS student ambassador who has gone beyond the minimum requirements stated in the FCS Student Ambassador handbook (e.g., attending two on-campus ISU events and one high school visit per semester) in assisting with the department's recruitment efforts. There may be more than one award given annually as funds allow.

Dora L. Munson Scholarship

The Dora L. Munson Scholarship Fund in the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences at ISU provides financial support to students who meet the qualifications established in these guidelines and who are committed to pursuing careers in education to teach in either a traditional school setting or in non-school learning settings. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Dora L. Munson Scholarship Fund in the Department of Family & Consumer Sciences at ISU provides financial support to students who meet the qualifications established in these guidelines and who are committed to pursuing careers in education to teach in either a traditional school setting or in non-school learning settings.

Riggs Scholarship

The Riggs Scholarship was created in 2018 by James and Deborah Riggs to provide financial assistance to students majoring in Fashion Design and Merchandising.

Jessie Rambo and Florence Runyan Scholarship

Florence B. Runyan and Jessie Rambo were both passionate about home ecomomics and Illinois State University. Florence was a 1907 graduate of ISNU and had a love of music and nutrition. She made a bequest in her will to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in the home economics program at Illinois State University and who desire to become teachers in the field. Jessie Rambo was a former chairperson of the Illinois State University Department of Home Economics. The award that she left has been given every year since 1942. The purpose of this combined fund is to provide financial support to a junior, home economics/family and consumer science major to help cover university fees for the student's senior year. Endowment assets are invested in the Illinois State University Foundation's long-term investment pool.

The Lois R. Jett Student Study Travel Endowment was established in 2018 to assist with funding travel expenses for an undergraduate or graduate student.

B.E.S.T. Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences

*** Needs purpose. The B.E.S.T. Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences was established in April 2008 to provide scholarships to students majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State University. Funds may be used to support expenses related to "statistical" research, including scholarships for student research recipients.

Susan R. Hoblit Home Economics Scholarship

This endowment was established in 2000 by Susan R. Hoblit. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1986 and a master’s degree in 1996 from Illinois State University. The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in family and consumer sciences with an emphasis on interior and environmental design area. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. This endowment was established in 2000 by Susan R. Hoblit. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1986 and a master's degree in 1996 from Illinois State University. The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in family and consumer sciences with an emphasis on interior and environmental design area.

Charlotte E. Talkington Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences

The Charlotte E. Talkington Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences provides financial support for a student majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) who has completed at least 60 credit hours and who has community service and/or leadership qualities and experience. Preference is given to student teacher education majors who demonstrate financial need. Dr. Charlotte E. Talkington, a longtime friend and dedicated supporter of ISU's FCS Department, established this scholarship to provide opportunity, support and encouragement for FCS majors.

Family and Consumer Sciences Recruitment and Retention Endowed Scholarship

The Family and Consumer Sciences Recruitment and Retention Endowed Scholarship was established by Charlotte E. (Peterson) Talkington in August 2014. Dr. Talkington was born in Morris, IL and graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1961. She continued her education and received a Masters of Education from University of Illinois in 1966, and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University in 1978. As a longtime friend and dedicated supporter of Illinois State's Family and Consumer Sciences Department, Dr. Talkington created this scholarship to provide opportunity, support and encouragement in the recruitment and retention of Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Education majors at Illinois State.

The Family and Consumer Science (FCS) General Fund provides support for the activities, programs, and operations, including named commemorative scholarships and awards, of the department.

Mary (Scheeler) Crane Endowed Scholarship in Dept. of Family and Consumer Science

The Mary (Scheeler) Crane Endowed Scholarship in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences was established in January 2004 to provide an undergraduate student with financial assistance in the amount of at least $1,000. The scholarship was established to address the needs of an average student struggling to make ends meet. The applicant must be majoring in an area of specialization represented by the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State University. Mrs. Crane earned her bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly referred to as Home Economics) from ISU in 1946. She taught home economics in Highland and raised two daughters.

Karen Morton Endowed Scholarship

This endowment was established in 2000 by the family and friends of Karen S. Morton as a memorial. The scholarship is awarded to a student with at least 60 credit hours and majoring in human development and family relations in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Karen Morton Endowed Scholarship was established in 2000 by the family and friends of Karen S. Morton as a memorial.

Hattie Lundgren Scholarship

This endowment was established by Hattie Lundgren, a 1922 graduate of Illinois State Normal University. The scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior undergraduate or graduate student majoring in family and consumer sciences. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Charlotte Talkington Professional Development Fund

This endowment was established in 1994 by Charlotte Talkington, a 1961 graduate of Illinois State University. The funds are used to provide Department of Family and Consumer Sciences faculty members the opportunity to enhance their skills through professional development. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Charlotte Talkington Professional Development Fund was established in 1994 by Charlotte Talkington, a 1961 graduate of Illinois State University. The funds are used to provide Department of Family and Consumer Sciences faculty members the opportunity to enhance their skills through professional development.

Helen Winslow Honan Award

This endowment was established in 1992 by the family of Helen Winslow Honan. The award is given to a faculty member who has made a significant contribution to the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences through their research or scholarly activities. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Helen Winslow Honan Award was established in 1992 by the family of Helen Winslow Honan. Honan grew up on a farm and graduated first in her high school class. She and her sisters taught in country schools and attended summer school at Illinois State Normal University. Honan studied home economics and worked as an RA in Fell Hall. After graduating from ISNU in the early 1930's, she worked in the Home Extension Service in Indiana. She encouraged and helped her nieces and nephews to go to college, and most attended ISNU for at least part of their education. Peg Hoffman, one of the nieces and one of the founding donors, also grew up on a farm and graduated from ISNU, taught home economics, and worked for the Extension Service. The award is given to a faculty member who has made a significant contribution to the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences through their research or scholarly activities.

Phyllis Memken Teaching Award

This endowment was established in 1995 by Jean Memken to honor her mother. This teaching award is offered to those qualifying faculty in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Phyllis Memken Teaching Award was established in 1995 by Dr. Jean Memken to honor her mother. This teaching award is offered to those qualifying faculty in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.

ISU Child Care Center

The mission of the Illinois State University Child Care Center is to provide high quality, developmental childcare services in a safe, nurturing, and diverse learning environment for preschool children of ISU students, faculty, and staff, ages 3-5. The Center serves as a working illustration of early childhood best practices by collaborating with families, the University, and community, all while utilizing the best current research and practice within the early childhood profession. The Illinois State Child Care Center Fund supports the programs, operations, facilities, equipment and technology associated with the Center.

Dr. Ann E. Stemm Travel Endowment Fund

The Dr. Ann E. Stemm Travel Endowment will assist with expenses related to conference attendance and travel for the Fashion Design and Merchandising program which includes: conference registration fees, transportation, accommodations, meals, and other expenses that may be applicable. Preference should be giving in the following order: Graduate Students, Assistant Professors, all other faculty.

The Virginia H. Kelly Dietetics Scholarship

The Virginia H. Kelly Dietetics Scholarship was established by Virginia Kelly in order to support a Jr. or Sr. in Dietetics.

Danielle Fairchild Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship: The Danielle Fairchild Memorial Scholarship fund was created to honor a student in the Dietetic Internship Program. Danielle had a love for visual creativity, and she wanted to combine that with her passion for nutrition through food art therapy. She enjoyed life and loved her family, friends, cooking, nature, and helping others.

Family and Consumer Sciences Professionals of McLean County Senior Award

The McLean County Home Economists in Homemaking club was established in 1961. The club later honored Florence Davis, chair of the Home Economics Department at Illinois State University, by sponsoring an outstanding senior award in honor of her retirement. The club has undergone a number of name changes over the years, from the original name to the Professional Home Economists of McLean County in 1975, and to Family and Consumer Sciences Professionals of McLean County in 1999. The faculty in each sequence of Family and Consumer Sciences nominate outstanding senior candidates, and a candidate from Teacher Education is also nominated. One candidate from this pool of nominees is chosen for this award.

My Mentors Endowed Scholarship for Family and Consumer Sciences

The My Mentors Endowed Scholarship for Family and Consumer Sciences was established in 2017 by Charlotte Talkington to honor her mentors, Marilyn Larson and Catherine Carter. The scholarship will support a freshman FCS major who demonstrated community service and/or leadership qualities while in high school. Preference will be given to a student with financial need.

Sharon and Parker Lawlis Endowed Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences

The Sharon and Parker Lawlis Endowed Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences was established in 2013 by Sharon '60 and Parker Lawlis '57, M.S. '61, to provide financial assistance to students majoring in teacher education in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State. Parker was co-captain of the ISNU basketball team in 1956-57. After they married, Parker became alumni director and later director of Placement Services for the University, from which he retired in 1992. He served in leadership roles for the Illinois State University Annuitants Association, Normal Town Council, McLean County Board, and Home Sweet Home Mission Foundation and received the Normal Citizen of the Year and E. Burton Mercier Alumni Association Service awards. Sharon taught home economics, retiring from Chiddix in 1994. She was named Career Woman of the Year by the Bloomington-Normal Professional Women's Organization. They serve as American Red Cross National Disaster volunteers.

Marjorie Sommer established this scholarship in appreciation of her education at ISU. She was a 1944 graduate who taught home economics for 20 years. Applicants may be incoming freshmen or currently enrolled with a major in home economics and involved in school or community activities. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Marjorie Sommer established the Sommer Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences in appreciation of her education at Illinois State University. She was a 1944 graduate who taught home economics for 20 years. Applicants may be incoming freshmen or currently enrolled with a major in home economics and involved in school or community activities.

John A., Mabel E. and Jacqueline Q. Karch Family and Consumer Sciences Endowment

Jacqueline Q. Karch created these scholarships in honor of her parents, for their support of her in numerous ways as a student, as well as a professor for twenty-four years at Illinois State University. The purpose of the fund is to honor outstanding students in family and consumer sciences and to provide financial assistance to help them excel while majoring in family and consumer sciences at the University. It was important to Jacqueline that the scholarship recipients be responsible for a reasonable portion of their expenses, and do not receive an education which is completely funded by this scholarship or in combination with other possible awards or grants.

Applicants must maintain a 3.7 GPA. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Lois R. Jett Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in October 2005. Lois R. Jett earned her bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Illinois- Urbana in 1955 and a master's degree in Home Economics Education from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 1959. After graduation, she taught high school home economics for 6 years. She came to Illinois State University in 1962 and worked in the Dept. of Family and Consumer Sciences until retiring as Assistant Professor in 1989. She was also instrumental in establishing the Lois Jett Historical Costume Collection.

The FCS Student Teaching Award was established by Beverly Haag to provide financial support for student teaching opportunities.

Margaret Ann Hayden Endowed Scholarship

The Margaret Ann Hayden Endowed Scholarship in Fashion Design and Merchandising was established in 2016. The purpose of this scholarship is to support students who have completed at least 30 college credit hours with sophomore status who are majoring in fashion design and merchandising.
