Arts Technology Program Fund
The Arts Technology Program Fund provides support for the activities, programs and operations for the Arts Technology Program in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts. The Program provide students with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of art, music, and theatre along with the theory and practice of digital and interactive media. Students work with artists, designers, and musicians who are experts in the latest technology and practices in their field. The program provides a broad and flexible curriculum designed to keep students current with industry trends and developments.
M. A. Reeves Music Research
Marjorie A. Reeves graduated from ISNU in 1945. She made a bequest in her will to establish a research scholarship fund in the school of music for students interested in music for handicapped children. Any student enrolled in the school of music at ISU who is interested in doing research in the area of music for handicapped children may apply for the scholarship. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Marjorie A. Reeves graduated from ISNU in 1945. Anne and Stephen Matter Artist Lecture Series
The Anne and Stephen Matter Artist Lecture Series in the Wonsook Kim School of Art was established in 2017 by Anne and Stephen Matter to support artist travel, stipend, reception, marketing, and other associated costs. The lecture series will be presented annually at University Galleries and will showcase artists who work in various media and processes including: photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video, performance, and interdisciplinary practices.
Kari Beth Rust Costume Design and Technology Scholarship
The Kari Beth Rust Costume Design and Technology Scholarship was established to honor her extensive influence on the costume program in the School of Theatre and Dance, the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, and the Chicago creative community. Kari Beth learned how to sew from her mother, Betty, but her passion for costuming was ignited by Mike and Gayle Dobbins. An ISU alum, she came to ISU professionally in 1995 where she met her future husband, Rob Fulton, who is also a graduate of the program. A strong advocate for students, incredibly organized, diligent and an expert in her craft, Kari Beth taught thousands of students how to sew. Her motto was "Every sleeve is a hat, but not every hat is a sleeve." Her humor and insight propelled students to always do their best under very stressful circumstances.
Peithman Music Scholarship
In 1976 Harlan W. Peithman established a fund in the ISU Foundation which has since grown into a fully endowed scholarship in the field of music. Students applying for the Peithman Scholarship must be an upper-division music student (junior or senior), have at least a 3.0/4.0 grade point average, and have demonstrated special academic merit and/or special need (assuming other criteria are met). Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. In 1976 Harlan W. Wonsook Kim School of Art M.F.A.Facilities Fund
The Wonsook Kim School of Art M.F.A.Facilities Fund is a quasi-endowment fund established with an initial gift in 2022 of $500,000 and additional gifts in 2023 and 2024 of the same amount will be used for securing an maintaining 20 state-of-the-art M.F.A. student studio spaces that are convenient to campus. Funds to be expended at the discretion of the Dean of the College.
Helen Diane Hoblit Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Susan R. Hoblit '86, M.S.'96 in memory of her sister Diane '65, M.A.'67. Diane received degrees in English and speech communication and was a vital part of the theatre program at Illinois State University. After graduation she worked as a professional actress and teacher for more than 30 years. One of her greatest accomplishments was collaborating in the creating of the Love Creek Production Company in New York City. Diane was known by her theatre teachers and colleagues as a determined and committed actress. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to student(s) who are enrolled in the School of Theatre and are majoring in the acting sequence.
Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts Facilities and Equipment Fund
The Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts Facilities and Equipment Fund is a quasi-endowment fund established with an initial gift in 2020 of $500,000 and an additional gift in 2021 of the same amount will be used for facilities, equipment, and instrument updates contingent upon current needs and other funding, including but not limited to, renovating studio spaces, practice rooms, flexible learning spaces for students, music therapy and performance instrument purchases and maintenance, as well as the purchasing of Steinway Pianos for the School of Music to acquire 'All-Steinway University School Designation.'
Friends of the Arts Fund
Need Purpose Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Friends of the Arts fund was established in June 2002. The purpose of the fund is to provide student scholarships and general support for programs and priorities of the College. The Friends of the Arts group consist of alumni and friends of the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts whose primary goal is the help promote Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts programs, foster an appreciation of the fine arts, and raise funds for special projects.
Terry Adkins Memorial Scholarship for Diversity
The Terry Adkins Memorial Scholarship for Diversity was established in 2016 in recognition of Terry's career as a distinguished artist. The scholarship will support a student who is from a traditionally underrepresented population and majoring in art at Illinois State University. Terry completed his undergraduate studies in 1975 at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his M.S. at Illinois State University in 1977 and an M.F.A. at the University of Kentucky in Lexington in 1979. He is a member of the College of Fine Arts Hall of Fame and was the 2012 commencement speaker at the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts commencement ceremony.
Alcorn Family Ceramics Scholarship
Gary Alcorn's interest in ceramics started in Junior High School. His mother, Madelyn Alcorn, always had a passion for the arts and one of his favorite memories is her love for slip casting in ceramics. In 2013 Gary and Trish Alcorn established the Alcorn Family Ceramics Scholarship to provide a profound experience for the students and make sure their passion and excitement for ceramics continued. In 2016, Gary decided to increase his commitment and established the Alcorn Family Ceramics Scholarship Endowment to help promising Ceramics students to attend a two-week studio workshop at a nationally recognized art and craft institution.

The Wonsook Kim School of Art General Fund supports the activities, programs and operations associated with the Wonsook Kim School of Art. The fund also serves as the central fund for named scholarships and awards that are not fully endowed.

Helen Merris Restricted Music Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by Donna Merris '61 in honor of her mother, Helen Frohwitter Merris. Helen was born in Bluffs on January 9, 1911. She married Donald Merris in 1928. They owned land and farmed around Bluffs, where they raised five children. As a young girl, Helen studied piano with a noted teacher in Hannibal, Missouri and traveled by train to her lessons. She played the piano for silent movies in the Bluffs Theater, was pianist for the Bluffs Methodist Church, and taught piano lessons to at least three generations of Bluffs area students. Donna is a distinguished musician herself. She was the first female student director of the annual musical of this university. She was a teacher, conductor, performer, director of music education, a lawyer and a judge in New York City. She maintains a lifetime commitment to music and the arts. It is her intention that this scholarship be awarded annually to a deserving student in the School of Music.
Mary M. Packwood Graduate Scholarship
In 1984 Mary McMullan Packwood established a special art teacher summer school scholarship award to recognize outstanding performance in the teaching of art and to foster leadership in the field of art education. The applicant must be accepted into a graduate program in art and submit examples of their and their students' art work, writing, college transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and GRE scores. The applicant must be a certified teacher of art in an Illinois school who has taught art for no less than two, and not more than ten years. Applicants wll be assessed based on their performance as a teacher of art, demonstrated leadership in the school system or the community, and/or academic or artistic ability. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Swanson Endowment
This endowment was established in 1991 by Mary Swanson B.S.E. '82. This award is given to students during their internship at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. This endowment was established in 1991 by Mary Swanson B.S.E. '82 to support an Illinois State Theatre intern with the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. In 2020, the criteria was modified to expand support for student interns who are participating in any professional theatres or production companies as approved by the Director of the School of Theatre and Dance.
Caroline Gordon Theatre Scholarship
*** Needs purpose The Caroline Gordon Theatre Scholarship was established through a bequest of Caroline Gorden. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Caroline Gordon Theatre Scholarship was established through a bequest of Caroline Gordon in 2004. The scholarship provides scholarship support for students majoring in theatre at Illinois State University. Ms. Gordon was a retired Illinois State staff member who passed away January 2004.
Fred and Lois Mills Art Scholarship

The purpose of the fund is to encourage and support research and creative work by both faculty members and students in the Wonsook Kim School of Art. Student and faculty recipients are selected in alternate years.
Linda Willis Fisher Scholarship Fund
This Linda Willis Fisher Restricted Scholarship was established in 2010 upon the retirement of Linda Willis Fisher, to celebrate her 22-year career as coordinator of the art education program at Illinois State University. An accomplished artist herself, Fisher mentored and inspired hundreds of students to go forward and become excellent art educators. The purpose of the fund is to recruit or retain exceptional students in art education. Scholarships will be no less than $500 or more than $1,000 per year. Candidates must have junior standing or above, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0, and be enrolled in the art teacher education program seeking certification. Preference will be given to those who exhibit leadership in the student chapter of the National Art Education Association.

This endowment was established in 1982 in honor of Stephanie Amster’s long time efforts to develop the Ewing Arts Festival. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in art and exemplifying the “best” through leadership, academic proficiency, artistic talent, and a commitment to excellence in art. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Mary M. Packwood Art Education Endowment Fund was established by Mary Packwood in 1985. Ms. Packwood believed art instruction was an integral part of the academic program and wanted to ensure art curriculum and instruction remained supported. In 2016, the funding guidelines were updated to specify that the fund supported Art Education students, faculty, and programs in the Wonsook Kim School of Art at Illinois State University

Civic Chorale Expendable Fund
The Civic Chorale Expendable Fund provides immediate support for the activities, programs and operations, including director salary and stipends, instrumentalists, guest artists, venues, programs and program notes, and other expenses necessary to support the Civic Chorale ensemble in the School of Music at Illinois.
University Galleries
The University Galleries Fund supports student scholarships for the Illinois State University Student Annual Exhibition, workshop supplies and transportation stipends for K-12 student field trips, artists' honoraria, and exhibition catalogues. The fund also serves as the base for scholarships and awards given to students with a particular interest in visual arts.

Normal Editions Workshop
The Normal Editions Workshop provides collaborative custom printing services for artists throughout the United States and extends the educational goals of the University. As a result, students have opportunities to work with and observe visiting artists who explore the creative and expressive potentials of printmaking. The purpose of this fund is to provide support for the activities of the Normal Editions Workshop and the projects it sponsors.
Wonsook Kim Endowment
The Wonsook Kim Endowment was established in 2017 by Wonsook Kim and Thomas Clement to support the programs and activities in the School of Art and University Galleries in the College of Fine Arts at Illinois State University. Funds may be used to support special projects and/or fellowships that are student-centered through enhanced teaching, learning, and creativity and that help grow international activities.

Gwen and Ted Crowley Endowment Fund
This fund was established in 2009 by James A. "Tony" Crowley to honor his parents, the late Gwen Crowley and Ted Crowley. His parents were very supportive of his pursuit of a career in visual arts and it is that spirit of support that inspired the establishment of this fund. Tony has a great awareness of the importance of providing professional development opportunities for all faculty, staff, and students. He began his teaching career in 1989 and joined Illinois State University as director of the Wonsook Kim School of Art in 2007. The purpose of this fund is to help cover expenses related to professional development by faculty, staff, and students in the Illinois State University Wonsook Kim School of Art. Priority for available funds will be in the following order: faculty, staff, and students.
University Galleries Exhibition Program Endowment
The University Galleries Exhibition Program Endowment was established in December 2014 by Dr. James E. Major and Dr. Amy Gilreath Major. The Galleries regularly exhibit and promote art by ISU faculty, students, and alumni. The purpose of the fund is to supplement catalogue printing and design, installation materials, documentation of art, and educational programming.

Keith and Becky Habersberger Scholarship
The Keith and Becky Habersberger Scholarship was established in 2020 to support and promote a Theatre student with a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The scholarship will provide financial assistance for a theatre major in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need. Student must be an active member of the Crossroads Project Committee or one of the following Registered Student Organizations: FreeStage, Improve Mafia, Theatre of Ted, Black Actors League, or the Latin American Theatre Association.
Pete Guither Theatrical Experimentation Fund
The Pete Guither Theatrical Experimentation Fund was established in 2018 by Pete Guither. The scholarship provides support for research opportunities where students can participate in, or explore, student-led theatrical risk taking, which may involve any of a number of performance-based forms.

This endowment was established in 1977. Mary Walker was a member of the ISU art faculty for 22 years. The scholarship is awarded to a student at the junior or senior level specializing in fabric, sculpture, or metal (jewelry) programs. Patty Foltz Memorial Fund
The Patty Foltz Memorial Fund was established as a student support fund that will help cover incidental expenses related to performances or recitals not otherwise covered by tuition and required as part of course or degree completion requirements.
Wonsook Kim Art Scholarship
Wonsook Kim came to Illinois State University from Korea in 1972 to study art. Like the rich cornfields nurturing the crops around her, the campus and thoughtful teachers provided a fertile place for her to grow. As a graduate student in 1975, she received the Elizabeth Stein Scholarship Award which provided reassurance that she could pursue her dream to be an artist and her creative voice could be heard if she worked hard. Wonsook Kim is now a very successful artist and is represented by galleries throughout the entire world. The Wonsook Kim Art Scholarship at Illinois State University was created as a way to pay back, in part, what she received so abundantly when she first began her own journey as an artist. The scholarship is awarded to an art major who has been accepted for enrollment or enrolled in good standing at Illinois State University. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.
Drake Elfline Design Studio Fund
The Drake Elfline Design Studio Fund was established in 2019 to provide financial assistance for students in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts. Scholarships are awarded to students at a junior, senior, or graduate student level who are intent in pursuing a career in their specific art discipline.
Colleen Tovar Memorial Stage Management Scholarship
One word to describe Colleen Tovar was "fierce." In a professional career that spanned over 35 years, she served as a technician, stagehand, actor, designer, Managing Director, and Producer. However, it was in Stage Management and Production Management where she found her passion. In 2015, Colleen shifted her focus to higher education, becoming the Production Manager and Stage Management instructor in the Department of Theater and Dance at Ball State University. In the fall of 2020, Colleen accepted a position at Illinois State University as the Production Manager and Stage Management instructor in the School of Theatre and Dance, along with being the Production Manager of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival. In July of 2021, Colleen was diagnosed with cancer and was taken from us too soon on November 7, 2022. The plan for this scholarship is to assist a graduating senior with these funds can be used to help start their professional career as a Stage Manager.
Professor Russell B. Bedford Scholarship in Music
The Professor Russell B. Bedford Scholarship in Music was established in 2017 by Russell and Janet Bedford to provide financial assistance to a student in bassoon or oboe who had either declared a music major or an intention to declare a major in music performance or music education. Preference is given to incoming freshman or transfer students.
Herminia Alvarez de La Rosa and Virginia Valdés Listrom Music Scholarship
The Herminia Alvarez de la Rosa and Virginia Valdés Listrom Music Scholarship supports an incoming or current undergraduate student majoring in music. Both talented pianists whose families immigrated to the United States from Cuba and Mexico, Herminia's and Virginia's interest and joy in making and sharing music has been passed on to their children and grandchildren. The scholarship was established in 2021 to honor their memory.
Charles Stokes Music Scholarship
In 2018, Professor Emeritus Charles Stokes established a scholarship to provided financial assistance for students with demonstrated musical ability and achievement. A trombonist and jazz pianist, Professor Stokes was recognized by his peers and students for outstanding teaching in the areas of theory and musicianship. Awarded to a student (undergraduate or graduate) that has been accepted for enrollment or is enrolled in good standing in the School of Music. The scholarship will be a renewable annual award. The Charles Stokes Music Scholarship was established in 2017 by emerita faculty Charles Stokes. Charlie was a beloved faculty member who taught in the School of Music for more than 30 years. He was highly respected by faculty and students as a musician and teacher. The purpose of the scholarship is to help support a student in the School of Music at Illinois State University.
Jason Royal Music Scholarship
The Jason Royal Music Scholarship was established in 2021 an an expendable fund to support a student enrolled in the School of Music. Preference given to a student with demonstrated financial need.
Theatre of Ted Endowment
Theatre of Ted was originally founded in the Fall of 1990 by Brendan Hunt and fellow students. It was chartered as a Registered Student Organization in January 2002. Theatre of Ted was founded on the principle that everyone deserves a chance to stand on the stage, shine in the spotlight, and hear the roar of applause that everyone deserves. The Theatre of Ted Endowed Scholarship was established by the student leadership following years of successful fund raising by students and a lead gift by Illinois State University employee and long-time friend of the club Gary Alcorn. The scholarship will provide support for student scholarships that encourage creativity.
Karen Deske Scholarship
Karen Deske, M.S., A.T.R., was tragically killed in an auto accident on Monday, December 5, 1994. Karen was the first graduate of ISU's master's program in art therapy, receiving her degree in 1987. She became registered as an art therapist in 1992, and worked as a member of the child sexual abuse treatment team at Lutheran Social Services in Peoria. Recipient must be a graduate art therapy student in his or her second semester, or have taken 9 to 12 hours of graduate art therapy and counselor education classes. Recipient can be a traditional or non-traditional student. The award is based on exceptional academic and clinical performance, as per grades and recommendations. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Karen Deske Scholarship was established in December 1994 following her death. Karen was the first graduate of Illinois State University's Master in Art Therapy, receiving her degree in 1987. The Scholarship required the Recipient be a graduate art therapy student in his or her second semester or have taken 9 to 12 hours of graduate art therapy and counselor education classes. The Art Therapy program is no longer active and the criteria no longer valid. In order that the Karen Deske Scholarship would continue to be awarded, the scholarship criteria was expanded to include all graduate students majoring in Art, with a preference given to a student who has an interest in using Art to teach in some capacity.

Colleen Farlee established the Lloyd W. Farlee Memorial Scholarship in the School of Music in memory of her husband in July 2008. Each candidate for the Lloyd W. Farlee Memorial Scholarship in the School of Music must be or have a student that has been accepted for enrollment or enrolled in good standing at ISU, planning to or majoring in the School of Music with an applied emphasis in voice and a major in either music education or music theater at ISU, and exhibit outstanding merit as a music student. The award is to be used for educational and/or housing expenses. Assets of this endowment are invested in the ISU Endowment Investment Pool. The Dr. Lloyd W. Farlee Memorial Scholarship was created with a purpose to award an ISU student in good standing who has exhibited outstanding merit in the School of Music and is majoring in either Music Education or Musical Theatre with an applied emphasis on voice. Eggan Family ISF Youth Programs Fund
This fund was established to honor the Eggan Family's longtime involvement and support of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival at Illinois State University, and Larry's many years of faithful service as an ISF Board Member. The Crossroads Fund was established in 2001 with an initial gift from Illinois Power Company and provides financial support for the Crossroads project. The purpose of this fund is to provide perpetual support for the activities of Normal Editions Workshop and the projects it sponsors. The workshop is a non-profit research facility adjoining the student printmaking studio at Illinois State University. Founded in 1976, the workshop attracts hundreds of artists of regional, national, and international reputation to visit campus, present lectures, and collaborate in the creation of limited edition prints. Also, students have apprenticeship and exchange opportunities. The Cal MacLean Endowment Fund was established in 2006 by the Illinois Shakespeare Festival Society to honor Calvin A. MacLean, who served as the artistic director of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival from 1995-2006, and as head of directing at ISU for fifteen years. The expendable earnings of the fund shall be a special fund for the enhancement of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival and be used by the artistic director of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival to fund or purchase such items as the director deems appropriate for the enhancement of the festival and its productions. The fiscal agent for the approval of the use of the funds is the director of the School of Theatre. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. John Stevens Memorial Fund
The John Stevens Memorial Fund was established by Nancy Stevens in 2003 in memory of John Stevens. John served on the Illinois Shakespeare Society Board of Directors from 1984 until his untimely death in 2000. John's commitment and passion to the Festival was unwavering. The John Stevens Memorial Fund was created to honor John and ensure future funding was available to help support future equity actors. The fund may also be used to cover costs related to the John Stevens Golf Outing, proceeds of which benefit the John Stevens Memorial Fund. The John Stevens Golf Outing began in 2001, with proceeds providing the seed money to fund an Equity actor beginning in the 2006 Festival season.

Dr. Alvin (Al) Goldfarb Student Theatre Fund
The Dr. Alvin (Al) Goldfarb Student Theatre Fund was established in 2017 by Dr. Goldfarb to help pay for/offset the cost of theatre tickets and travel expenses for students in the School of Theatre and Dance to attend high qualify live theatre performances and productions regionally, nationally, and internationally. Funds are exclusively for students who are theatre majors.
Josefina Gutiérrez Ferrán Scholarship
Josefina Gutiérrez Ferrán was an adult learner in the Illinois State University Art Department for 16 years. Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, Josefina had a passion for life, education, music, and painting. Her artwork reproduced vivid memories of her homeland. Fleeing communism and in search of a better life, and to be closer to her children who preceded her in leaving Cuba, Josefina eventually settled in Central Illinois. She passed away in 2000. The Josefina Gutiérrez Ferrán Scholarship for Latino Art Students was established in 2001 by her daughter, Dr. Ana Maria F. Parent, a former faculty member at Illinois State University.

The Thomas McCormick MFA Printmaking Scholarship was established in 2019 to honor Thomas McCormick as Illinois State University's first MFA graduate and to acknowledge the influence of artist and Emeritus Professor, Harold Boyd. Through his teaching and mentorship, Professor Boyd impacted many printmaking and drawing students. This endowment will honor his legacy and provide financial assistance for a talented printmaking student in the Wonsook Kim School of Art MFA program.
Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts Strategic Initiatives Endowment
The Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts Strategic Initiatives Endowment will be funded beginning in 2020 with an initial gift of $500,0000 and additional gifts in 2021 through 2025 and $1 million annual gifts in 2026 through 2028. The Endowment will provide funds for College-wide priorities as determined by the Dean of the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts. Expenses include, but are not limited to, scholarships, faculty and student research, equipment, domestic and international travel, exhibitions, artist residencies, lectures, working at archaeological and conservation sites, concerts, multimedia presentations, theatre and dance productions, University Galleries programming, faculty and student awards.

Robert Fred Kern Scholarship
The Robert Fred Kern Scholarship was established in 2021 through an estate gift following the passing of Dr. Robert F. Kern. The scholarship provides support for a music education student whose major instrument is piano. Dr. Kern graduated with a bachelors degree in music from Illinois State in 1966. He was named as an honored alumnus for the School of Music in 2010 and inducted in to the College of Fine Arts Hall of Fame in 2011. In 2012, he served as the commencement speaker and considered this opportunity as one of the more pivotal times in his life.

This endowment was established in 1993 by family, friends, and colleagues of Jean Scharfenberg. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating student, either a senior or M.F.A. candidate, majoring in acting. Candidates must demonstrate talent, discipline, and good work habits, attitude, performance work, and scholarship. Funds are to be used to defray costs involved in beginning a professional acting career. This endowment was established in 1993 by family, friends, and colleagues of Jean Scharfenberg. Barbara (Schonert) Benway Endowed Scholarship in Art Education
Barbara received her bachelor's degree in art education from Illinois State University in 1950. It is here that she met her future husband. She felt that the education she received here was excellent and remembers her professors as caring individuals. They expanded her horizons further than she ever thought possible. After graduation she became an art teacher and taught in Downers Grove and Elmhurst during her 37 years as an art instructor. She retired in 1987. Though she and her husband never had any children, they felt it was important to put their money toward something that would help young people to reach their goals in a university that gave her and her husband so much. The purpose of this scholarship is to give art students assistance with their educational expenses.

Each candidate for the Lloyd and Eleanor Fengel Scholarship must be enrolled in good standing at ISU; demonstrate strong academic achievement, as evidenced by a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; currently be enrolled in the music education program, or accepted in the program as an incoming student; and exhibit exceptional promise in music and a strong commitment to a career in music education. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The Lloyd and Eleanor Fengel Scholarship was established in 1997 by Lloyd Fengel. Lloyd attended Illinois State graduating with a Music Education degree in 1942. James Major and Amy Gilreath Music Scholarship
This fund was established in 2007 by Amy Gilreath, an accomplished and internationally recognized trumpet performer and professor of music at Illinois State University, and James Major, Dean of the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts, who has had a distinguished career in music and music education spanning four decades. Each candidate must be accepted or enrolled at Illinois State, be engaged as a student in trumpet as a declared music major or by having indicated an intention to declare a major in music, and maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

The Paul Andziewicz Back-a-Bird Scholarship Fund was established by Paul Andziewicz in order to provide support to students in the Big Red Marching Machine.
Valdés Family Accompanist Scholarship Fund
The Valdés Family Accompanist Scholarship Fund was established by Rochelle La Rosa and Craig Valdés to honor the memory and legacy of Rafael and Simona Valdés and the Valdés children who studied music and whose interest and joy in making and sharing music has been passed on to their children and grandchildren.
John Ferrell Endowed Scholarship for Madrigal Singers
This endowment was established in 2003 by John and Audrey Ferrell to recognize a talented member of the madrigal singers. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has been a respected member of the madrigals for at least one year, and demonstrated exceptional talent in vocal music and leadership among peers. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. The origin of the name "Blackfriars" dates back to the 13th Century. They were bands of hooded monks who presented shows from portable stages. The name "Blackfriars" was adopted by the ISNU Chapter, Kappa Lambda, when it was founded in 1934. The purpose of this fraternity was to present annual, humorous stage productions of the highest possible type on campus. The members wrote, produced, performed in, and built scenery for these productions. The Blackfriar organization provided a social atmosphere before the fraternity system was established on campus until it disbanded circa 1964. The Blackfriar scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student with a major or minor in Theatre that has completed at least two semesters of coursework. Dr. C. Louis Steinburg Art Scholarship
Dr. C. Louis "Lou" Steinburg was an art professor at Illinois State University who taught for 34 years before retiring in 1993. His art work was displayed in various galleries and collections throughout the United States and across the world. Lou passed away in July 2014 but was a teacher until the end. Lou continued to enjoy instructing students in painting and kept in touch with many students throughout the years. A former painting student of Dr. Steinburg was particularly impacted by his teaching and started this scholarship in memory of Dr. Steinburg. The scholarship supports an undergraduate student majoring in art, with an emphasis in painting.

This endowment was established in 1990 by Betty Robertson in memory of her sister, Mary Jo Brown. The scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior music major who has demonstrated outstanding service to the department, as well as exceptional musical talent. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Irving S. and Jobie Tick Award Fund
The Irving S. and Jobie Tick Award Fund was established in honor of Irving S. and Jobie Tick's longtime involvement and support of the Wonsook Kim School of Art and University Galleries at Illinois State University. The Fund will provide funding for the University Galleries Student Annual Exhibition awards for students who meet the following criteria. o Enrolled in good standing at Illinois State University. o Participate in University Galleries Student Annual Exhibition. o Final selections will be determined by the exhibition judge.

Suzzanne Douglas Endowed Scholarship
*** Needs purpose This endowment was established in 2002 by Suzzanne Douglas, a well known and successful actress. Guidelines for the scholarship have not been established. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Suzzanne Douglas attended Illinois State prior to a 30-year and continuing career as a successful television, cinema, and stage actress. Balancing career and family, Suzanne completed her degree in theatre from Illinois State University in 2011. She is a two-time Image Award winner, and she received a Black Oscar, a Reel Award, and the Mary Martin Award for her professional work. Suzanne established this scholarship to support a student majoring in theatre at Illinois State.
Sutter Family Shakespeare Scholarship
The Sutter Family Shakespeare Scholarship was started by Craig Sutter in memory his mother, G. Jean Sutter and his father, H. Everett Sutter. Their passion for the arts and civic engagement resonated with Craig from a young age. He has been an avid supporter and patron of the Illinois Shakespeare Festival since its inception in 1978. Craig's involvement in the Festival has ranged from ice cream socials for the cast to walk on roles with the company. The Sutter Family Shakespeare Scholarship provides support for a student majoring in theatre. The "Sutter Scholars" will study theatre at Illinois State University and take part in an internship with the Illinois Shakespeare Festival.
Mary Ellen T. Somers Art Teacher Education Scholarship
The Mary Ellen T. Somers Art Teacher Education Scholarship was established in 2018 by Taylor S. Hassan and Jacob Hassan to honor their mother, who loved teaching art and thrived on the satisfaction of seeing her students tap into the creative spaces within themselves. Mary Ellen received her BS in Teacher Art Education in 1974 and her MFA in 1995 from Illinois State University. A beloved member of the educational community in Central Illinois, Mary Ellen taught art to students from 1974 until her retirement in 2010. As a finalist for Teacher of the Year in 2002, Mary Ellen's commitment to understanding the importance of preparing art teachers to assist with young impressionable creative minds was important, dear and precious to her.
Robert C. and Susan Lee Walling Music Education Scholarship
The Robert C. and Susan Lee Walling Music Education Scholarship was established in 2016 by Bob and Susan Walling. The purpose of this award is to help a future music teacher/performer learn important career skills through both music and campus leadership and involvement. Qualified applicants must demonstrate academic and personal achievement with specific requirements determined annually by the School of Music based on its recruiting and retention priorities. Preference will be given to a student with financial need.
Denny Mays Scholarship
The Denny Mays Scholarship was established with gifts from family and friends made in memory of Mr. Mays following his passing in 2011. Mr. Mays started his career at Illinois State University in 1969 and retired in 2009 from as the School of Theatre and Dance Scene Shop Foreman. The Denny Mays scholarship will be given annually to a deserving Theatre student with demonstrated financial need who is significantly involved in building scenery or props for School of Theatre Productions. The student recipient must exhibit Denny's values of hard work, respect, and a passion for a job well done. Selection will be made by the School of Theatre and Dance.
Daniel Rinkenberger Scholarship for School of Music
The Daniel Rinkenberger Scholarship for School of Music was established by Daniel Rinkenberger in order to support students studying within the School of Music at Illinois State University.
Gregory W. Slawko Memorial Scholarship
The Gregory W. Slawko Memorial Scholarship was established by his sister Kyle Scanlon to honor Greg's passion for the theatre. Greg loved all aspects of the theatre from acting, singing, dancing, and writing plays to costume design. He was fortunate in that he was able to have a career that he truly loved design. Throughout his career and the country, Greg brought color to the stage and to life with his detailed and extraordinary designs. During his tenure teaching, he enjoyed aiding students to further develop their talent. The purpose of this scholarship is to honor Greg's memory by awarding the scholarship to an individual who shares Greg's love of the theatre and design.
Florence B. Runyan & Benny Kemp Endowed Music Scholarship
Florence B. Runyan, ISNU Class of 1907, made a bequest in her will and gave $5,000 to her alma mater. The gift was unrestricted, but Florence Runyan had special interests in music and nutrition. Two scholarships were therefore established, one in music and one in home economics-nutrition. The student must have a 3.0 or higher grade point average (based on 4.0 system). The student must have special skills and talents in their respective field of music or home economics. Assets of this endowment are invested in the Illinois State University Endowment Investment Pool. Florence Runyan, ISNU Class of 1907, provided a gift through her estate to support music scholarships at Illinois State University. Ms. Runyan passed away in 1978. The Benny Kemp Music Scholarship was established in 1978 following his death. The scholarship was funded through gifts by faculty, family and friends made in his honor. The Florence Runyan and Benny Kemp Endowed Music Scholarship was established in 2016 by combining the fund balances. The scholarship will provide financial support to students majoring in music at Illinois State University.
