The Wonsook Kim School of Art General Fund supports the activities, programs and operations associated with the Wonsook Kim School of Art. The fund also serves as the central fund for named scholarships and awards that are not fully endowed.

The Ceramics General Fund supports the activities, programs and operations associated with the Ceramics Program in the Wonsook Kim School of Art.

Normal Editions Workshop

The Normal Editions Workshop provides collaborative custom printing services for artists throughout the United States and extends the educational goals of the University. As a result, students have opportunities to work with and observe visiting artists who explore the creative and expressive potentials of printmaking. The purpose of this fund is to provide support for the activities of the Normal Editions Workshop and the projects it sponsors.

Graphic Design General Fund

The Graphic Design General Fund supports the activities, programs and operations associated with the Graphic Design Program in the Wonsook Kim School of Art.

Glass Fund

The Glass Fund supports the activities, programs and operations associated with the Glass Program in the Wonsook Kim School of Art.

Linda Willis Fisher Scholarship Fund

This Linda Willis Fisher Restricted Scholarship was established in 2010 upon the retirement of Linda Willis Fisher, to celebrate her 22-year career as coordinator of the art education program at Illinois State University. An accomplished artist herself, Fisher mentored and inspired hundreds of students to go forward and become excellent art educators. The purpose of the fund is to recruit or retain exceptional students in art education. Scholarships will be no less than $500 or more than $1,000 per year. Candidates must have junior standing or above, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0, and be enrolled in the art teacher education program seeking certification. Preference will be given to those who exhibit leadership in the student chapter of the National Art Education Association.

Normal Editions Workshop Endowment

The Normal Editions Workshop Endowment provides perpetual support for the activities of Normal Editions Workshop (NEW) and the projects it sponsors. The workshop is a research facility adjoining the student printmaking studio at Illinois State University. Founded in 1976, the workshop attracts hundreds of artists of regional, national, and international reputation to visit campus, present lectures, and collaborate in the creation of limited edition prints. These funds are to be used for expenses such as materials and supplies for print projects; promotional materials; travel for faculty, staff, students, and visiting artists; stipends for visiting artists; housing and meals for visiting artists and traveling faculty and staff; tools and equipment; matching funds for external grants; contractual services; space rental; personnel; fundraising; student awards; and artists' receptions.

Terry Adkins Memorial Scholarship for Diversity

The Terry Adkins Memorial Scholarship for Diversity was established in 2016 in recognition of Terry's career as a distinguished artist. The scholarship will support a student who is from a traditionally underrepresented population and majoring in art at Illinois State University. Terry completed his undergraduate studies in 1975 at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his M.S. at Illinois State University in 1977 and an M.F.A. at the University of Kentucky in Lexington in 1979. He is a member of the College of Fine Arts Hall of Fame and was the 2012 commencement speaker at the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts commencement ceremony.

Mary M. Packwood Graduate Scholarship

In 1984 Mary McMullan Packwood established a special art teacher summer school scholarship award to recognize outstanding performance in the teaching of art and to foster leadership in the field of art education. The applicant must be accepted into a graduate program in art and submit examples of their and their students' art work, writing, college transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and GRE scores. The applicant must be a certified teacher of art in an Illinois school who has taught art for no less than two, and not more than ten years. Applicants will be assessed based on their performance as a teacher of art, demonstrated leadership in the school system or the community, and/or academic or artistic ability.

Gwen and Ted Crowley Endowment Fund

This fund was established in 2009 by James A. "Tony" Crowley to honor his parents, the late Gwen Crowley and Ted Crowley. His parents were very supportive of his pursuit of a career in visual arts and it is that spirit of support that inspired the establishment of this fund. Tony has a great awareness of the importance of providing professional development opportunities for all faculty, staff, and students. He began his teaching career in 1989 and joined Illinois State University as director of the Wonsook Kim School of Art in 2007. The purpose of this fund is to help cover expenses related to professional development by faculty, staff, and students in the Illinois State University Wonsook Kim School of Art. Priority for available funds will be in the following order: faculty, staff, and students.

Harold Gregor Professorship in Art Endowment

The Harold Gregor Professorship in Art Endowment was established in 2019 in honor of former Illinois State University Wonsook Kim School of Art Professor Harold Gregor to recognize an outstanding Illinois State University faculty member. Funds will support the named professor's academic and creative endeavors at the discretion of the Dean of the College and the Director of the School. Funds may be used for, but are not limited to, faculty travel and research or creative projects, student travel and research supporting the named professor, or for creative projects, technology and supplies or salary supplementation.

Dr. C. Louis Steinburg Art Scholarship

Dr. C. Louis "Lou" Steinburg was an art professor at Illinois State University who taught for 34 years before retiring in 1993. His art work was displayed in various galleries and collections throughout the United States and across the world. Lou passed away in July 2014 but was a teacher until the end. Lou continued to enjoy instructing students in painting and kept in touch with many students throughout the years. A former painting student of Dr. Steinburg was particularly impacted by his teaching and started this scholarship in memory of Dr. Steinburg. The scholarship supports an undergraduate student majoring in art, with an emphasis in painting.

Mary R. Walker Scholarship

This endowment was established in 1977. Mary Walker was a member of the ISU art faculty for 22 years. The scholarship is awarded to a student at the junior or senior level specializing in fabric, sculpture, or metal (jewelry) programs.

Wonsook Kim School of Art M.F.A.Facilities Fund

The Wonsook Kim School of Art M.F.A.Facilities Fund is a quasi-endowment fund established with an initial gift in 2022 of $500,000 and additional gifts in 2023 and 2024 of the same amount will be used for securing an maintaining 20 state-of-the-art M.F.A. student studio spaces that are convenient to campus. Funds to be expended at the discretion of the Dean of the College.

Alcorn Family Ceramics Scholarship

Gary Alcorn's interest in ceramics started in Junior High School. His mother, Madelyn Alcorn, always had a passion for the arts and one of his favorite memories is her love for slip casting in ceramics. In 2013 Gary and Trish Alcorn established the Alcorn Family Ceramics Scholarship to provide a profound experience for the students and make sure their passion and excitement for ceramics continued. In 2016, Gary decided to increase his commitment and established the Alcorn Family Ceramics Scholarship Endowment to help promising Ceramics students to attend a two-week studio workshop at a nationally recognized art and craft institution.

Mary Ellen T. Somers Art Teacher Education Scholarship

The Mary Ellen T. Somers Art Teacher Education Scholarship was established in 2018 by Taylor S. Hassan and Jacob Hassan to honor their mother, who loved teaching art and thrived on the satisfaction of seeing her students tap into the creative spaces within themselves. Mary Ellen received her BS in Teacher Art Education in 1974 and her MFA in 1995 from Illinois State University. A beloved member of the educational community in Central Illinois, Mary Ellen taught art to students from 1974 until her retirement in 2010. As a finalist for Teacher of the Year in 2002, Mary Ellen's commitment to understanding the importance of preparing art teachers to assist with young impressionable creative minds was important, dear and precious to her.

Hanan Omran Nassar Art Scholarship Fund

To establish an endowed scholarship providing financial assistance for students in the Wonsook Kim School of Art

Mary M. Packwood Art Education Fund

The Mary M. Packwood Art Education Endowment Fund was established by Mary Packwood in 1985. Ms. Packwood believed art instruction was an integral part of the academic program and wanted to ensure art curriculum and instruction remained supported. In 2016, the funding guidelines were updated to specify that the fund supported Art Education students, faculty, and programs in the Wonsook Kim School of Art at Illinois State University

Kenneth Holder MFA Painting Scholarship

The Kenneth Holder MFA Painting Scholarship was established in 2020 by Janice Holder honoring the legacy of her husband, professor and artist Kenneth Holder. The scholarship is awarded annually to a talented painting student in the Wonsook Kim School of Art MFA Program who is accepted for enrollment or enrolled in good standing in the Illinois State University Wonsook Kim School of Art MFA Program.

Stephanie Amster Design Fund

The Stephanie Amster Design Fund endowment was established in 1982 in honor of Stephanie Amster's long time efforts to develop the Ewing Arts Festival. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in art and exemplifying the "best" through leadership, academic proficiency, artistic talent, and a commitment to excellence in art.

Fred and Lois Mills Art Scholarship

The Fred and Lois Mills Art Scholarship was established in 1986 with donations from friends, family, and colleagues in honor of the retirement of Fred Mills. The purpose of the fund is to encourage and support research and creative work by both faculty members and students in the Wonsook Kim School of Art. Student and faculty recipients are selected in alternate years.

Elizabeth Stein Art Scholarship

The Elizabeth Stein Art Scholarship was established in1971 with a gift from Elizabeth Stein. The scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in art.

Josefina Gutiérrez Ferrán Scholarship

Josefina Gutiérrez Ferrán was an adult learner in the Illinois State University Art Department for 16 years. Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, Josefina had a passion for life, education, music, and painting. Her artwork reproduced vivid memories of her homeland. Fleeing communism and in search of a better life, and to be closer to her children who preceded her in leaving Cuba, Josefina eventually settled in Central Illinois. She passed away in 2000. The Josefina Gutiérrez Ferrán Scholarship for Latino Art Students was established in 2001 by her daughter, Dr. Ana Maria F. Parent, a former faculty member at Illinois State University.

Ken Holder Professorship in Art Endowment

The Ken Holder Professorship in Art Endowment was established in 2019 in honor of former Illinois State University Wonsook Kim School of Art Professor Ken Holder to recognize an outstanding Illinois State University faculty member. Funds will support the named professor's academic and creative endeavors at the discretion of the Dean of the College and the Director of the School. Funds may be used for, but are not limited to, faculty travel and research or creative projects, student travel and research supporting the named professor, or for creative projects, technology and supplies, or salary supplementation.

Wonsook Kim Art Scholarship

Wonsook Kim came to Illinois State University from Korea in 1972 to study art. Like the rich cornfields nurturing the crops around her, the campus and thoughtful teachers provided a fertile place for her to grow. As a graduate student in 1975, she received the Elizabeth Stein Scholarship Award which provided reassurance that she could pursue her dream to be an artist and her creative voice could be heard if she worked hard. Wonsook Kim is now a very successful artist and is represented by galleries throughout the entire world. The Wonsook Kim Art Scholarship at Illinois State University was created as a way to pay back, in part, what she received so abundantly when she first began her own journey as an artist. The scholarship is awarded to an art major who has been accepted for enrollment or enrolled in good standing at Illinois State University. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Drake Elfline Design Studio Fund

The Drake Elfline Design Studio Fund was established in 2019 to provide financial assistance for students in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts. Scholarships are awarded to students at a junior, senior, or graduate student level who are intent in pursuing a career in their specific art discipline.

Marshall Dulaney Pitcher Scholarship Award

The Marshall Dulaney Pitcher Scholarship Award was established in 1970 by Velma Pitcher-Sorensen, M.S.E '74. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student in the field of art.

Thomas McCormick MFA Printmaking Scholarship

The Thomas McCormick MFA Printmaking Scholarship was established in 2019 to honor Thomas McCormick as Illinois State University's first MFA graduate and to acknowledge the influence of artist and Emeritus Professor, Harold Boyd. Through his teaching and mentorship, Professor Boyd impacted many printmaking and drawing students. This endowment will honor his legacy and provide financial assistance for a talented printmaking student in the Wonsook Kim School of Art MFA program.

Anne and Stephen Matter Artist Lecture Series

The Anne and Stephen Matter Artist Lecture Series in the Wonsook Kim School of Art was established in 2017 by Anne and Stephen Matter to support artist travel, stipend, reception, marketing, and other associated costs. The lecture series will be presented annually at University Galleries and will showcase artists who work in various media and processes including: photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video, performance, and interdisciplinary practices.

Robert Small Scholarship

Candidates for the Robert Small Scholarship awards must be enrolled in ISU and concentrating in art history. They must have demonstrated academic proficiency and scholarly study. Applicants should submit their credentials to the Art Department for consideration.

Karen Deske Scholarship

The Karen Deske Scholarship was established in December 1994 following her death. Karen was the first graduate of Illinois State University's Master in Art Therapy, receiving her degree in 1987. The Scholarship required the Recipient be a graduate art therapy student in his or her second semester or have taken 9 to 12 hours of graduate art therapy and counselor education classes. The Art Therapy program is no longer active and the criteria no longer valid. In order that the Karen Deske Scholarship would continue to be awarded, the scholarship criteria was expanded to include all graduate students majoring in Art, with a preference given to a student who has an interest in using Art to teach in some capacity.

Harold Boyd Professorship in Art Endowment

The Harold Boyd Professorship in Art Endowment was established in 2019 in honor of former Illinois State University Wonsook Kim School of Art Professor Harold Boyd to recognize an outstanding Illinois State University faculty member. Funds will support the named professor's academic and creative endeavors at the discretion of the Dean of the College and the Director of the School. Funds may be used for, but are not limited to, faculty travel and research or creative projects, student travel and research supporting the named professor, or for creative projects, technology and supplies, or salary supplementation.

Wonsook Kim School of Art Strategic Initiatives Endowment

The Wonsook Kim School of Art Strategic Initiatives Endowment will be funded beginning in 2020 with an initial gift of $500,0000 and additional gifts in 2021 and 2022. The fund will provide support, at the discretion of the Director of the School for, but not limited to, international travel and research funds, technology and supply updates, visiting artists and professors, student scholarships and graduate students.

Harold and Marlene Gregor Endowment Fund

The Harold and Marlene Gregor Endowment was established through a gift by Harold and Marlene Gregor. Harold is an Illinois State University distinguished professor emeritus, and Marlene received her master's degree from the University. The purpose of this fund is to provide transportation and admission fees for students in the Wonsook Kim School of Art to visit museums and galleries.
