Department of Health Sciences Excellence Fund

The Department of Health Sciences Excellence Fund provides support for the activities, programs, and operations, including named commemorative scholarships and awards, of the department.

Additionally Supports: HPE Professional Development Award, Health Information Management Award, Janet Long Award

Department of Health Sciences General Scholarship Fund

The purpose of this fund is to provide educational support to undergraduate students majoring in any program within the Department of Health Sciences.

Health Promotion and Education Excellence Fund

The Health Promotion and Education Excellence Fund was established in 2019 to support health promotion and education activities and programs in the Department of Health Sciences.

The Gregory Mitchell Scholarship in Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability

The Gregory Mitchell scholarship in Environmental Health, Safety and Sustainability Fund was established to provide support for upperclassmen or transfer students studying Environmental Health and Sustainability and/or Occupational Safety and Health.

Charles T. Spencer Scholarship

The Charles T. Spencer Scholarship was established in 1994 by Ellen Spencer in memory of her husband, Charles T. Spencer. The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Medical Technology, Health Science, or Chemistry at Illinois State University.

Maurine Corsaut Clinical Laboratory Science Scholarship

The Maurine Corsaut Clinical Laboratory Science Scholarship was established by friends and family of Maurine Corsaut when she retired from the Department of Health Sciences. She taught at Illinois State University from 1970-1990. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time student at the junior or senior level, majoring in Clinical Laboratory Science.

Health Information Management Fund

The Health Information Management Fund was established in 2003. The fund provides support for the activities, programs, and operations, including named commemorative scholarships and awards, of the program.

Safety Program Excellence Fund

The Safety Program Excellence Fund will be used to keep the Safety Program relevant and on the cutting edge. This fund supports the highest priority initiatives for educating students and advancing best practices in safety, and is critical to expanding the national reputation and excellence of the Safety Program and its students. The fund will be used to provide student scholarship and general operating support for the Safety program.

Ann E. Nolte Scholarship

The Ann E. Nolte Scholarship was established by Dr. Nolte's family and colleagues. Dr. Nolte was a Distinguished Professor Emerita and leader in Health Education. The scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior level student majoring in Health Promotion and Education.

Omron Safety Scholarship

Omron Foundation, Inc. (OFI) was founded in 1989 and coordinates the charitable efforts of Omron offices in the US to achieve the greatest positive social impact. The Foundation is funded by Omron's subsidiaries in North America, which contribute a portion of sales revenue to the Foundation. The Foundation divides its charitable resources among organizations benefiting education, people with disabilities, cultural programs, health, and other social concerns including disaster relief. OFI has supported Illinois State University through the establishment of an Omron Applied Safety and Ergonomics Laboratory, the Omron Bioenergy Laboratory as well as other initiatives. OFI would like to further contribute to the aims of the ISU Safety Program through an endowed Omron Safety Scholarship. Together with the Omron Applied Safety and Ergonomics Laboratory, we believe this will help make it easier for students to further their pursuit of the theoretical and practical application of safety science.

Heinz Russelmann Scholarship

Heinz Russelmann was a Health Sciences faculty member from 1976 to 1995. This scholarship was established to honor his commitment to excellence and to the environmental health profession. It recognizes students majoring in Environmental Health who are leaders and active in program, professional, or community activities.

Kris and George Byrns Environmental Health Discovery Endowed Scholarship

The Kris and George Byrns Environmental Health Discovery Endowed Scholarship provides support to students who are pursuing a degree in environmental health. Byrns spent 25 years working in environmental health with the USPHS Indian Health Service before becoming a faculty member of the Illinois State University Department of Health Sciences in 1999. Like many undergraduate students, Dr. Byrns had several declared majors before discovering the environmental health program at Colorado State University.

Jennifer Wood Medical Laboratory Science Scholarship

The Jennifer Wood Medical Laboratory Science Scholarship supports a junior or senior with a declared major in Medical Laboratory Science who plans to complete professional practice in the next 12 months. Jennifer Wood graduated from Illinois State in 1997 with a degree in Clinical Laboratory Science.

Mark Temple Health Education Professional Development Travel Award

The Mark Temple Health Education Professional Development Travel Award was established in 2017 by Donna and Adrian Lyde to help support student travel to the American School Health Association (ASHA) or Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) conferences. Students may request consideration to attend other conferences similar in nature that demonstrate applicability to their course of study. Determination for alternate conference attendance will be made by the Department of Health Sciences Chair or a designee.

Jeanne Martens Scholarship

This endowment was established in 1995 by Joseph and Audrey Naffziger in memory of their daughter, Jeanne Martens, a 1977 graduate of Illinois State University. The scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who has attained junior status, majoring in Clinical Laboratory Science.

Illinois State University-Omron Interactive Safety Learning System

The OMRON Foundation, which coordinates the charitable efforts of all OMRON Corporation offices in the U.S. and Canada, established the Illinois State University – OMRON Interactive Safety Learning System Fund in 2009. The funds are to be used for purchasing additional equipment to work with the donated OMRON safety equipment. Cash and donated equipment will be used to support activities to increase awareness of contemporary machine safeguarding practices by developing industrial simulations in the Applied Safety and Ergonomics (ASE) Lab at Illinois State University.

Beverly J. Barham Scholarship in Medical Laboratory Science

Dr. Barham is a professor in Medical Laboratory Science that has been teaching at Illinois State University since 2000, achieving the rank of full professor in 2012. This scholarship was established by her husband, Jim to honor Dr. Barham's focus on helping students reach their maximum potential.

Ann E. Nolte Scholar in Health Education Program

Ann E. Nolte Scholar in Health Education Program Fund was established in 2001 by Dr. Nolte to bring a well-known scholar to campus to bring attention to the Health Education Program including students, university community, and community at large. In 2016 the fund was renamed in Dr. Nolte's honor. The fund may be used to support the HPE Program including expenses associated with bringing a visiting scholar to campus each year.

ASSE Student Chair Scholarship

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Scholarship was established in 1991. The ASSE scholarship is awarded to the individual who has served as ASSE chairperson in the preceding year and fulfilled assigned responsibilities for that position.

Health Information Management (HIM) Scholarship Fund

The Health Information Management (HIM) Scholarship Fund was established by Jane Turley in order to support second semester junior students, with financial need, fulfill their summer professional practice.

Dr. Ann E. Nolte Family Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity Scholarship in Health Sciences

The Dr. Ann E. Nolte Family Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity Scholarship in Health Sciences was established by Illinois Prairie Community Foundation in order to provide scholarship to students at Illinois State University.
